Start here! 👋🏻

I’m Dr. Mel, Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist, and I created a practice fully devoted to women’s health.

Never in a million years did I think I would have the opportunity to serve so many women and help to fill the gap in women’s health.

There is still such a need to normalize pelvic floor issues, and that’s what I’m here to do!

Pelvic floor health is such an important foundation to your whole body through any life stage:

🩸Fertility
🤰🏻Pregnancy / postpartum
🌹Menopause
🙋🏻‍♀️Everyday women’s wellness

The truth is that women are still being told that kegels or just doing nothing is the answer to bowel, bladder, and pelvic pain problems.

But that just isn’t the case. I use a holistic approach that I have created to truly integrate all aspects of care that women need.

Integrating cycle health, movement & exercise, nervous system regulation, lifestyle support, & nutrition into your pelvic health treatment is my specialty.

We truly go beyond just looking at your pelvic floor because EVERYTHING is connected.

If you’re looking for a new approach to your pelvic floor recovery, DM me “GET STARTED” to schedule a FREE call!

I see patients in person in Lafayette, LA and virtually through telehealth.

Happy healing,
Dr. Mel

If you’ve got pelvic pain in the front, sides, or back, this is for you!

It’s very common to experience pelvic pain around second and third trimester due to the natural changes to the body during pregnancy.

Your ribcage widens, your pelvic bones at the top widen, your abdomen grows forward, and your spine tips forward, all creating a reaction from the pelvic floor to compensate with tension

The easiest way to address these compensations is through full body Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy.

And that’s exactly what I help my clients with in Lafayette and virtually! Just DM me to book a free call to get started!

Dealing with leakage but never had kids? You may be missing the root cause of pelvic floor muscle tension, which can occur for many different reasons!

When we commonly think of leakage after a baby, it’s from a whole different perspective. The vaginal tissues stretched out, things got a bit weak, and your bladder is missing some of its support so out comes the p*e.

But that isn’t the root cause for the majority of folks who have never been pregnant.

The opposite is happening, which is tight and tense pelvic floor muscles that aren’t allowing the pelvic floor to be able to respond under the pressure of a cough, sneeze, laugh, or exercise.

So as part of your symptoms, leakage could begin due to this tension.

In this case it’s important to address the issue with pelvic floor relaxation techniques, not strengthening, so your muscles can learn to relax and coordinate better!

And if you’re dealing with leakage and can’t figure out the cause, DM me and let’s book a free call!

Hot take from Dr. Mel!

As a holistic pelvic floor physical therapist in Lafayette, I often see clients that are doing WAY too many exercises that are not specific or targeted to the root cause.

Many of these exercises can end up working against each other and lead to confusion.

So my tip for you is to check in and ask yourself, are you doing too many exercises?

For a holistic pelvic floor physical therapy reset plan, I start with my clients by finding the true root cause of their issues and decrease the exercises to a few targeted ones first so your nervous system and pelvic floor can truly reset.

This makes it so much easier to move onto the next phase of building workouts with your pelvic floor in mind!

When someone suggests you should try pelvic floor PT for your tailbone pain or your leakage or your back pain and hip pain that won’t go away or any other issue, i know that you may be thinking

“Ugh I just don’t want to HAVE to be in physical therapy”

And for someone like me who integrates all body systems and coaches women through their issues to get strong and confident, that hurts my heart!

But what I know you really mean is that you are tired of the cookie cutter exercises you’ve seen before

You don’t want to be forced to attend 2-3x a week which is inconvenient and costly

You are not wowed by what you have seen before from past PT or people saying they can help you with their rehab

You feel identified by your diagnosis which means your last PT experience was centered around exercises for that body region alone

…and all of this is totally understandable!

In my practice, I integrate systems and get WAY MORE SPECIFIC into your diagnosis and exercises.

Generic clamshells and kegels wont solve your problem because they aren’t integrating all the key areas that need to be strengthened.

I create specific individualized programs for my clients that get them moving and working out on day 1 while navigating their symptoms.

So you don’t have to be concerned that by the time you finish PT with me that you’ll then still have to figure out how to workout

Because we will do all of that together while healing the exact problem you came in for

Let’s do more than treat symptoms together. Let’s get you strong and confident!

Looking for help? Just DM me and let’s book a call to discuss!

Because the pelvic floor is foundational for so many areas of the body, we have to TRAIN the whole body as a system with the pelvic floor in mind.

Your leakage, prolapse, pelvic pain…all of those are signs of imbalances. Imbalances cause compensations.

Compensations cause poor movement patterns which become your body’s new normal.

When I started addressing my patient’s movement patterns and building exercise programs from day 1, it did 2 things:

1. It gave them confidence because they didn’t have to stop all activities or sit out from gym routines while being in active PT treatment

2. They simply got better faster!

This is because 1 hour a week of an appointment simply isn’t enough to make true lasting change.

So I build all of my Lafayette patients a truly custom virtual exercise plan that has all of the pelvic floor treatment included. We work through that on a daily basis and by the time it becomes a workout, your body has corrected the movement compensations and you get more out of your higher level exercises

WITHOUT pelvic floor issues!

If you want to heal your pelvic floor issues from the ground up with a comprehensive exercise plan from day 1, that’s exactly what I do for my Lafayette patients!

Planning a hysterectomy in Lafayette?

Here are 3 things I help my Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy clients with to prepare for recovery!

The most important thing to remember is that this is a surgery, and surgeries are typically followed with physical therapy to recover muscle and movement function.

A hysterectomy or any reproductive surgery is not different since it will affect your abdominal muscles and your pelvic floor muscles.

Go into it prepared for your recovery!

I’m Dr. Mel, Lafayette Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist, and I’m here to help you heal without the “just do more kegels” advice

But here’s the truth most women aren’t told...

Kegels alone rarely fix the root of pelvic floor problems.

Almost 6 years ago, I saw a huge gap in pelvic health care and built my practice around doing things differently.

Because too many women were being told to:
Just do more kegels
Stop working out
Wait and see if it gets worse before seeking care
And the result was they stayed stuck because the approach of just doing kegels and avoiding exercise is incomplete.

As a Doctor in Physical Therapy specializing in pelvic health (and someone who has personally experienced pelvic floor issues myself), I knew there had to be a better way.

So in my practice, I focus on the root cause instead of chasing symptoms.

That means:

✔️Helping your pelvic floor get strong without doing hundreds of kegels at red lights

✔️Addressing the movement patterns and habits that are actually driving symptoms like leaking, heaviness, or pain

✔️Using corrective exercise rehab as a bridge to fitness so your body work with your pelvic floor instead of against it

✔️Helping you return to the gym, running, or lifting with confidence without guessing what’s safe

Because the goal isn’t just temporary relief.

The goal is helping you fully trust your body again.

If you’re tired of guessing what your pelvic floor actually needs and want a plan to support your body, that’s exactly what we do in a Pelvic Floor Evaluation Appointment. Just book a free call by sending a DM with the word “call”
