Spotting the Signs of Inflammatory Breast Cancer:
πŸ” Unexplained Breast Redness
πŸ” Swelling or Warmth
πŸ” Orange Peel-Like Skin Texture
πŸ” Rapid Changes in Breast Appearance

Your health matters! Get checked today and spread the word. Early detection saves lives. πŸ’•

Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a rare type of cancer that spreads quickly. Unlike most breast cancers, IBC doesn’t usually cause lumps in breast tissue. Instead, it appears as a rash, creating skin texture on the affected breast similar to an orange peel. IBC causes pain, redness, swelling and dimpling on the affected breast.

IBC results when cancer cells block lymph vessels β€” the small, hollow tubes that allow lymph fluid to drain out of your breast. The blockage leads to inflammation, causing symptoms that make it easy to mistake IBC for an infection.

IBC grows fast and requires immediate treatment. Healthcare providers usually treat IBC with chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy.

You can’t prevent inflammatory breast cancer. For the best outcomes, seek treatment early. Let your healthcare provider know about any breast changes as soon as possible.

The relationship between sleep and cancer is a complex one. There is evidence that both short-term and long-term sleep disruptions can increase the risk of some cancers, while getting enough sleep can help improve cancer outcomes.

Short-term sleep disruptions

Short-term sleep disruptions, such as those caused by jet lag or shift work, can increase the levels of certain hormones that promote tumor growth. For example, one study found that people who worked night shifts had a 20% higher risk of developing colorectal cancer than those who worked during the day.

Long-term sleep disruptions

Long-term sleep disruptions, such as those caused by insomnia or sleep apnea, can also increase the risk of cancer. For example, one study found that people with insomnia had a 40% higher risk of developing breast cancer than those who did not have insomnia.

Sleep and cancer treatment

Getting enough sleep is also important for people who are undergoing cancer treatment. Cancer treatment can disrupt sleep in a number of ways, including:

Side effects of medications, such as fatigue, nausea, and vomiting
Pain
Anxiety and depression
Stress
Sleep deprivation can make it harder to cope with cancer treatment, and it can also lead to complications such as infections and weight loss.

Sleep and cancer outcomes

Getting enough sleep may also help improve cancer outcomes. For example, one study found that people with breast cancer who slept for at least 7 hours per night had a better chance of survival than those who slept for less than 7 hours per night.

Tips for improving sleep

If you are having trouble sleeping, there are a number of things you can do to improve your sleep habits. These include:

Stick to a regular sleep schedule and wake up at the same time each day, even on weekends.
Create a relaxing bedtime routine.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol before bed.
Exercise regularly, but not too close to bedtime.
Make sure your bedroom is dark, quiet, and cool.
See a doctor if you have a sleep disorder.
Improving your sleep habits can help reduce your risk of cancer, improve your quality of life, and make it easier to cope with cancer treatment.

πŸŽ—οΈ Celebrating Cancer Survivor Month: Honoring Resilience and Triumph! 🌟

Hello, Facebook friends!

June is here, and it holds a special significance for all of us. It's Cancer Survivor Month, a time dedicated to celebrating the remarkable strength and resilience of those who have battled cancer and emerged as victors. Today, I invite you to join me in honoring their incredible journeys and shining a light on their inspiring stories.

Cancer touches the lives of millions around the world, affecting individuals, families, and communities. But within the darkness, there are countless stories of hope, courage, and triumph. Cancer survivors demonstrate unwavering determination, embodying the spirit of resilience in the face of adversity.

Let us take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of cancer survivors. They have overcome countless obstacles, endured challenging treatments, and displayed tremendous bravery throughout their battles. Their stories serve as a beacon of hope for others still fighting, reminding us all that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

During this month, let's come together as a supportive community and take action to honor cancer survivors:

πŸŽ—οΈ Share stories of triumph: If you or someone you know has triumphed over cancer, I encourage you to share your story. Your experiences can inspire others and offer comfort to those still on their journey.

πŸŽ—οΈ Express gratitude: Reach out to cancer survivors in your life and express your admiration and gratitude. A simple message or phone call can go a long way in brightening their day and reminding them of the impact they have made.

πŸŽ—οΈ Support survivorship programs: Many organizations and support groups offer programs and resources to help cancer survivors thrive post-treatment. Consider volunteering, donating, or raising awareness about these initiatives in your community.

πŸŽ—οΈ Promote self-care: Encourage cancer survivors to prioritize their well-being by practicing self-care. Whether it's engaging in hobbies, seeking counseling, or joining support groups, let's remind them to nurture their minds, bodies, and spirits.

πŸŽ—οΈ Raise awareness: Spread the word about Cancer Survivor Month and the importance of early detection, regular screenings, and advancements in cancer research. Together, we can work towards a future where more individuals can overcome this disease.

To all the cancer survivors out there, your strength, courage, and determination inspire us all. You are true warriors, and we stand with you in celebrating your victories and supporting you in your ongoing journey.

Please feel free to share your messages of support, personal stories, or resources in the comments below. Together, we can make a positive impact in the lives of cancer survivors and continue the fight against this disease.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Dr. Albany
