The Louisiana Association of Naturopathic Physicians (LaANP) is a professional organization for naturopathic doctors (NDs) in Louisiana. The organization aims to promote the profession of naturopathic medicine and advocate for its recognition and practice in Louisiana.

Dr. Krystal Shelmire is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in Louisiana and serves as the Treasurer of the Louisiana Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

While Louisiana is still developing its regulations for NDs, NDs can play a role in healthcare by providing alternative therapies and holistic approaches to health.

Naturopathic doctors (NDs) follow a rigorous education path similar to MDs and DOs (osteopathic doctors). They begin with a science-based bachelor’s degree and pre-med coursework.🧠 Then they attend a 4-year accredited naturopathic medical school, completing over 4,100 hours of training.

Along with a standard medical curriculum, NDs receive specialized training in clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, acupuncture, physical medicine, and counseling. Hands-on clinical experience prepares them to diagnose and treat patients as primary care providers.

After graduation, NDs must pass the NPLEX licensing exams.📚 Currently, 26 jurisdictions (23 states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands) offer licensure or certification for NDs.

Residency opportunities are expanding, with many NDs completing one to two-year primary care or specialty programs. NDs have a pivotal role in advancing integrative health care, working alongside all types of practitioners. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4jO4lTh
