wrote a blog that is now live on how to heal through nature!

Amber is one of the eco-therapy clinicians who loves to bring in nature into session and loves to be out in nature for sessions! She does this in a multitude of ways but she also wanted to share how you can do this on your own outside of therapy. Nature is everywhere! Read the blog and give some of these suggestions a try!

We hope it helps to regulate, ground, or comfort you!

YOU ARE INVITED to our Forest Bathing Trail Open House this coming Saturday, November 9! Fellow therapists, grad students, nature lovers, healing seekers—come on out!

After visiting a forest bathing trail located at the Santa Elana Cloud Forest in Costa Rica in 2021, owners Kathryn and David Dietzway were inspired to bring a Forest Bathing trail to Lafayette.

Kathryn wrote 10 nature connection invitations which are now permanently installed at on trailposts along a 1/2 mile long trail.

Join us for our trail Open House where the public will have the opportunity to engage in Trauma-Informed Yoga, receive an educational talk about Forest Bathing, followed by a guided walk to our Forest Bathing trail at Moonseed Loop!

Yoga is donation based. The Forest talk and walk is free! Sign up for either or both at our link in bio!

Our team is so grateful to have Ashley Petty, LPC on our team for so many reasons! One being her devotion to life long advancement of clinical knowledge and the biology of the human experience.

Ashley just completed a 45 hour asynchronous training that was led by DEB DANA on applying polyvagal theory-the science of safety, connection and disconnection/dysregulation in the human body-into the therapy setting.

Ashley already had so much education on the topic of somatic methods but she just loves it so much that she keeps going deeper, for her clients, herself and her team.

Congratulations to Ashley for finishing this in depth Polyvagal course. Stay tuned for what’s next for Ashley!

If you are seeking healing that incorporates a somatic, humanistic, compassionate, authentic and trauma-focused approach, contact us at 337-254-0362. Ashley anticipates openings in the new year and her waiting list is open.

Some of our team got together for some connection and crafting at Moncus Park this week! For many, this holiday is a time that represents child like adventure and curiosity. It can also be a way to honor the shadow parts of our psyche that ususally get repressed, creating an opportunity for community emotional release and repair. What does Halloween mean or do for you?🎃

If Halloween is something you observe we are sending cool autumn air and festive Halloween tunes your way.
EDIT:

For many, Halloween is not a time of glimmers, it is a time of triggers of negative, traumatic or abusive experiences. We are sending you permission to create the boundaries needed to cope through today and validation of your complex feelings today and all days.

What a beautiful day for some forest connection! Today our very own Amber Dugas, PLPC guided us on an inclusive Forest Bathing experience. Folks of all physical mobility levels were invited to join in this experience that was located on accessible trails.

Some of the take aways from today:

Forest bathing is an opportunity to be with nature for no reason other than TO BE. To coexist, connect and be mindfully present.

Forest bathing is not just about what nature can do FOR us. It’s also about giving back to nature and cultivating a reciprocal relationship, not just a one sided one.

We don’t need a forest in order to practice Forest Bathing. Allow yourself to drop out of the doing brain and into your sensory experience of the present moment and you can begin to embody the practice of Forest Bathing, even during small moments like walking to check your mail or sitting in your own backyard.

Our next nature-based event is November 9–Forest Bathing trail open house! Register at the link on our bio www.linktr.ee/thetherapygarden

Therapist Shaquwanda Henry, LCSW represented The Therapy Garden at Saturday’s Health and Wellness Expo for the 100 Black Men Organizations Sickle Cell Run/Walk!

This event prioritized raising awareness about Sickle Cell Disease and providing health and wellness resources to participants. Chronic health conditions not only affect physical but can also cause mental health symptoms due to the chronic stress and trauma the person also experiences.

Meet our wonderful Kolby Finnie!
This clinician has been working so hard to learn more lately and recently finished a trauma informed basic training CEU.

Kolby is passionate about mental health support and eager to support you how you need. He sees the importance of meeting each person where they are to ensure they have their emotional and mental needs met when beginning the work together.

“My goal as your therapist is to help you to tap into your full potential. Because potential is only useful if it is cultivated.

A seed has the “potential” to grow into a beautiful plant; but only if it is watered, planted in good soil, and receives the sunlight it needs.
Otherwise, it will simply remain a seed with potential.

Much like we as human beings become the best version of ourselves from being supported, connected to loved ones, and through self love.

Let’s water the seeds of your life, and cultivate your potential together.“

Call our office today and schedule an appointment with Kolby if needed!

I have two openings for new clients who are interested in pursuing healing with me. Therapy with me combines structure with authenticity and embodied presence. We go beyond cognition to get in touch with the somatic imprints of trauma that can remain within a nervous system for decades beyond traumatic experiences.

My approach is a synthesis of somatic therapy, EMDR, Applied Polyvagal and Ecotherapy, with a sprinkle of other approaches such as Ego State Therapy, Mindfulness and Hypnosis.

If this resonates, you are invited to reach out at 337-254-0362

Join us on October 26th for our free and inclusive option for forest bathing. Nature can teach you so much and we know that access to therapy financially, time wise, and even emotionally isn’t always an option so we try to teach other ways to support your nervous system.
Nature has been a mirror for the nervous system since the beginning of time. Nature is slow, and growing, nature is calm and courageous, nature is gentle and strong.
There is so much we can learn from nature and we hope you join us to come see what that growth looks like in yourself!

Registration is open for our Spring Eco-Somatic EMDR training! EMDR being evidence-based and protocol-oriented doesn’t mean we can’t include the natural world in the process. Training requirements:
•Must be a master’s level mental health professional
•Must have already completed EMDR basic training through EMDRIA or Parnell approved trainers.

Some preexisting knowledge in somatic, mindfulness and embodiment approaches will enhance your experience

Are you in need of a therapist who will walk with you in the depths of troubles and be flexible to your needs? Taylor could be that therapist for you!
Taylor works with a multitude of clients and pulls from a trauma-focused and person centered narrative to make sure she sees the client where they are at and treats them in a sustainable way. She has worked with many people experiencing OCD, anxiety, and trauma and uses different therapeutic approaches to treat those struggles.

She utilizes eco-therapy and mindfulness along with a harm reduction approach to help keep her clients stabilized and supported while working through difficult topics, experiences, or felt senses.
