Check out this cute little bunny! 🐰 He hopped into his session with Mrs. Morgan to work on lifting his tongue to his “special spot”! This targeted oral motor task, combined with functional speech and feeding practice, is helping him to:

🥕 Say his /l/ sounds more clearly
🥕 Improve his swallow pattern
🥕 Improve his oral rest posture

When therapy is focused on improving overall oral movement patterns, big changes happen in many different areas of functioning! This is the foundation of oromyofunctional therapy- looking beyond just one skill (like a speech sound) and addressing the underlying patterns that impact speech, breathing, and swallowing. By targeting the “why” behind the difficulty, we often see faster progress and more lasting results across multiple areas! 🗣️👄👃🏼

🌟Therapist Spotlight! 🌟

Let’s get to know our newest OT, Mrs. Kennedy DiMaggio a little bit more!

Mrs. Kennedy graduated with her master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in Austin, Texas. She has training in DIRFloortime and has completed coursework focused on neurodiversity-affirming therapy with the Autism population. Mrs. Kennedy has experience supporting children in developing sensory regulation, fine motor, gross motor,
graphomotor, executive functioning, and self-care skills. She strives to provide therapy that fosters independence, confidence, and participation through play-based, trauma-informed, and strengths-focused interventions.

Originally from Jennings, Ms. Kennedy just moved back closer to home with her family of 3. In her free time, she likes to build Magna-tiles with her 2 year old son, go to farmer's markets, and watch cooking shows with her husband.

Ms. Kennedy approaches therapy with a smart, thoughtful, and cheerful demeanor- we are lucky to have her on our team! 💖🌲

🌟Therapist Spotlight! 🌟

Let’s get to know our newest SLP, Noel Johnson, a little bit more!

Ms. Noel graduated with her master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from Louisiana State University, where she was honored with the Outstanding Master’s Clinician Award in recognition of her clinical excellence. Following graduate school, she completed a specialized clinical fellowship program in Baton Rouge that provided advanced mentorship and specialized training in many areas, including: AAC, autism, infant/pediatric feeding, and cranio-facial care.

Originally from Franklin, she’s thrilled to be closer to home serving the families in the community she loves. 💛 She loves crafting, thrifting/antiquing, or spending time in the outdoors with a good book.

Ms. Noel brings an intelligent, focused, and fun-loving approach to therapy and we are thrilled to have her! 🩷🌲

Dr. Seuss's birthday was such a special treat, we decided to celebrate all last week! With silly stories, green eggs and ham, and wearing super cool hats, Dr. Seuss week at Redwood was a total blast! 🩷🌲

We are so excited to welcome 2 new members to our Redwood family- our newest Speech Therapist, Noel Johnson, and our newest Occupational Therapist Kennedy DiMaggio!
