September is Healthy Aging Month! Here is a short list of some tips to help you and your loved ones get better with age! Have a healthy diet by reducing fats and sugars, swap animal protein with plant protein, and incorporate a Mediterranean diet. Exercise! Try to get at least 2.5 hours of weekly exercise. Incorporate aerobic and resistance workouts to improve memory and learning, and to develop new brain cells. Increase muscle mass to prevent falls, fractures, brain atrophy, and improve functionality. Be aware of your mental health! Reduce chronic stress to improve the hippocampus (the part of the brain linked to emotions, learning, and memory). Play fun, communal activities to increase brain health. Reduce depression through the benefits of social interaction, gained through group workouts.
