Congratulations Lindsey and Natalie!
Today, 25 Law Enforcement and Correction Officers completed 40 hours of Crisis Intervention Team Training. Officers represented West Lafayette Police, Lafayette Police, Purdue University Police Department, Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office, Carroll County Sheriff's Office Indiana, Delphi Police Department, Oxford Police Department, Tippecanoe County Community Corrections, and Home with Hope, Inc.
The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is a community partnership that addresses the needs of mental health consumers who enter the judicial system. The primary goals of CIT are to reduce injuries to officers and mental health consumers during contact and to appropriately redirect mental health consumers from the judicial system to the services and support needed to stabilize consumers and reduce contact with police. A component of CIT is a training academy where officers learn to safely handle mental health consumers in crisis.
Officers learned about community agencies and resources. They
made site visits to Valley Oaks Health Clubhouse, Recovery Café Lafayette, and LTHC Homeless Services and were able to talk with people experiencing homelessness, in recovery from substance use and mental health conditions.
Special thanks to Meridian Health Services, Sycamore Springs, North Central Health Services, and Purdue Federal Credit Union for providing lunch, snacks, and drinks.
Thank you to Faith West Community Center and American Legion Post 492 West Lafayette, IN for the use of their space.
