📣 We’re working right here in Acadiana on an incredible project! Check this out!

We’re proud to partner with Ochsner Lafayette General and Acadian Ambulance through the Step Up Together Project (link in comments). This is a multi-month collaborative that unites birth centers, hospitals, and EMS to strengthen emergency preparedness, run full-scale drills, and improve outcomes for families who may require emergency transfer from midwifery care settings.

This week we ran a mock severe postpartum hemorrhage scenario led by Midwife Jamie. This opportunity showcased how The BirthHouse meets national standards to manage emergencies with medications, targeted care plans, rapid assessments, and is prepared for a seamless hand-off to the hospital those few times transfer may actually be needed.

The feedback was strong …LGMC even called the drill “eye-opening.” 🙌
Together, we identified ways to improve communication during transfers, clear up misconceptions about birth center capabilities, and reinforce our shared goal of improving outcomes for families across Acadiana.

Your body is brilliantly designed for birth but you’ve got to get those bones moving!

🧍‍♀️ Upright & forward-leaning positions use gravity to help baby move down and can even shorten labor.

🤠 Movements like lunges and “Flying Cowgirl” open the pelvis and create more space for rotation and descent.

🛁 Comfort tools like the tub, rebozo, or peanut ball ease pain, boost relaxation, and help labor progress naturally.
