An Advent Thought
As we are praying and preparing ourselves to celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day, many of us have heard that this season is a time of preparation for the Lord's coming. The rich teaching of our faith tells us that we are preparing for Christ's coming in three ways: First, celebrating God coming to us as human and in the vulnerability of a baby over 2000 years ago. We prepare secondly, for the Lord's coming again, "to judge the living and the dead, and His Kingdom shall have no end." Finally, we are taught that we are to prepare our lives, our hearts for the coming of Jesus through a deeper, richer life of faith. On this third Sunday of Advent, I encourage your and your spouse, that sometime today, you have a conversation asking each other: "How can we make more room for God in our marriage?" Come up with one or two agreed upon actions that you can commit to and make a resolution to incorporate them into your relationship.

Here are a couple of ideas: 1) Commit to a daily prayer that the two of you share. For example: Praying daily the "Peace Prayer of St Francis of Assisi" for you relationship. Praying the "The Memorare". 2) Going to a daily mass together once a week or once a month. 3) Commit to an at home date night - where you learn a new card game or board game. Maybe learn a new craft or put a jigsaw puzzle together. 4) Read a marriage book or take an online marriage course. Whatever it is, I hope you the Grace of this Advent season will allow you both to look at preparing a place for Jesus in your Sacramental marriage.
