1 in 3 people in the US will get shingles! We carry the shingles vaccine (Shingrix) in stock and administer right at the pharmacy. No doctor's office visit is required. If you are over 50 years old and have had chickenpox then you are at risk for shingles and its painful effects. Protect yourself and stop by Medicap to get vaccinated. No appointment is needed. IMPORTANT---This vaccine is a 2-dose series with the second shot administered 2 to 6 months after the first shot. We guarantee availability of the second dose and will call to remind you when it is time.

Shingles vaccination is the only way to protect against shingles and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), the most common complication from shingles

Why do YOU need to get a flu shot? Because it's not just about YOU!

"Last night I shared a post on Facebook that said, 'Hey, the flu shot isn't about you.' Sitting here, soaking up every ounce of caffeine before my night shift, I figured I should elaborate.

The flu shot is for Influenza, a severe respiratory illness that can lead to death. Have you ever had it? I have, and it's awful. You spike fevers, every bone and muscle in your body aches, and no matter how hard you try, you just can't seem to catch your breath.

You get the flu shot not always for you, but for those around you.

For the grandparents, whose bodies are not what they used to be, and they just can't kick an illness in the butt like when they were young.

For the 30 year old, with HIV or AIDS, who has a weakened immune system.

For the 25-year-old mother of 3 who has cancer. She has absolutely zero immune system because of chemotherapy.

For the newborn baby who was just welcomed into the world, and isn't quite strong enough to fight off infections on his own.

For the nurses and doctors that take care of you. If they get sick, they can't go to work and take care of the countless patients that need them.

For the 50-year-old husband who needs a medication for his chronic illness, and that medication also weakens his immune system.

For the pregnant mom that has been trying to get pregnant for years, and now she's trying to stay healthy for her unborn baby.

For the single dad who can't take any more sick days and needs to provide for his kids.

For the 7-year-old boy that just wants to play with his friends. But he has a disease that puts him at a higher risk for infection, so he has to stay inside.

The flu shot is NOT always about you. It's about protecting those around you, who cannot always protect themselves.

I have been in the room as a patient has passed away, because of influenza. I have watched patients struggle to breathe, because of influenza. I have busted my butt to provide tylenol, warm blankets, nebulizers, etc. to keep that patient comfortable and fighting a terrible respiratory infection.

Herd immunity is a thing. Influenza killing people is a thing. You getting the flu shot, should be a thing."

What a Pharmacy Should Be

Medicap Pharmacy in Lafayette, IN strives to provide its customers with high quality, personal service that has all but disappeared in today’s retail pharmacy world. Most traditional chain drug stores have adopted the fast food model for customer service, but at Medicap Pharmacy in Lafayette we believe your health is more important than that.

Do you know your pharmacist? We think you should. Your pharmacist is a highly trained and valuable resource that can assist you with your medications and medical supplies. Your pharmacist can consult with you on a range of topics including how to take all of your medications correctly, what over the counter medication options may be most effective, and can even offer options and tips for lowering costs for your medications. At larger chain stores the pharmacist has only one main focus, getting as many pill bottles out the door as possible. To accomplish this the pharmacist is pulled away from the customer and permanently stationed away from the front counter to better focus on the pill bottle and lessen the distraction from the customer. Support staffing is often cut to a point where the pharmacist can barely keep up with filling and checking prescriptions to deliver them when promised. These companies have a lot of store overhead, many layers of management, multi-million dollar CEO’s, and demanding shareholders, so they must rely on a model of higher volume and cutting service to meet their needs.

At Medicap Pharmacy in Lafayette we are held accountable by our customers and our community. Our focus is getting to know all of our customers and finding out how we can help them with their health needs beyond just handing them a bottle of medication. We pride ourselves on working with not only our customers, but also with their doctors and caregivers to ensure they are getting the best treatment possible. We promote and utilize tools like specialty compliance packaging that combines multiple medications to make it easier to take them in the right amount at the right time. Our large counseling room allows for a private setting to discuss health concerns and medication treatment options for our customers and their family members or caregivers.

At Medicap Pharmacy in Lafayette you won’t find a drive-thru window because we don’t believe in treating your medications like fast food. For some people that type of service may be OK, but we are here for those of you who expect more. We think you deserve it.
