Community Outreach Success Story
Recently, officers were called to a local business to help a 70-year-old woman who had been released from the ER and was left stranded with no phone, ID, or money.
Our Community Outreach team stepped in to learn her story. She had been traveling home to Pennsylvania from Nashville when a health emergency derailed her trip, leaving her without her belongings or a way forward. With no family able to assist and her health making travel impossible, she was in a very difficult situation.
Outreach made temporary arrangements at a local hotel and continued to check in on her as her health needs grew. After multiple ER visits and an inpatient stay, she was ultimately connected with LTHC Homeless Services, where she is now receiving the care and support she needs in their respite unit.
Special thanks to Gateway to Hope, NAMI West Central Indiana, Outreach Advocacy Center Inc., and West Lafayette Police!
This is just another example of how LPD and our Community Outreach Team works hand-in-hand with community partners to meet people where they are, provide stability in times of crisis, and connect them with the resources they need to move forward.
