Linden (Tilia spp.), also called basswood or lime (UK), is a cold-hardy member of the Mallow family, related to Marshmallow, Hibiscus, and even Cacao. Its fragrant flowers bloom in mid-July here in Colorado, lasting just a few weeks.

Both the flowers and leaves can be brewed into a tea that offers:
•Gentle mucilaginous support for the respiratory and digestive tracts
•Nutritional nourishment from vitamins, minerals, and flavonoids
•Nervine properties to calm the nervous system and quiet the mind
•A mild, soothing addition to nighttime blends

Often planted in cities for their tolerance to pollution, compacted soil, and disturbance, Lindens are a resilient and underused herbal ally worth getting to know.

Congratulations to our 2025 Advanced Herbalism Program graduates! 🌿

These dedicated students have immersed themselves in the complexities of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, clinical skills and nutrition—while continuing to deepen their relationship with the plant world. The Advanced Program is no small feat, and we’re so proud of the knowledge and insight each of these herbalists now carries forward into their next chapter.

Many will be joining our Clinical Herbalism Program this fall, where they’ll begin working with clients through our community clinic. We can’t wait to see the ways they continue to grow and learn!

Our Advanced Program students have been hard at work over the past few weeks seeing their very first practice clients! ✨ From case write-ups and protocol development to attending round table and formulating personalized herbal support, they’ve been diving into clinical practice.

This past week they wrapped up the process by filling formulas for their clients in the CSCH apothecary 🌿 These sessions—and the herbal formulas—are offered completely free as part of our annual Advanced Free Clinic, giving students a chance to get their feet wet before starting our Clinical Program in the fall.

We didn’t manage to snag a group photo (oops), but here’s a peek at one of our incredible students in action!

🌸 Out in the Boulder foothills, our Fundamentals students dive into the magic of botany — learning to identify plants using a dichotomous key and getting to know some of herbalism’s most beloved plant families, including the rose family!

This spring, they spent time with American plum and chokecherry in bloom, observing patterns that make rose family plants easy to spot:
🌼 5 sepals
🌼 5 petals
🌼 Numerous stamens (yep, that means more than 10!)

Add in some toothed leaves and fruit-bearing ovaries, and you’ve got yourself a Rosaceae!

Want to get out and learn botany with us?

Sip into spring and summer with this vibrant herbal blend, crafted by our team at CSCH!

Formulated for both flavor and function, this infusion features rose hips, tulsi, lemon verbena, spearmint, orange peel, and hibiscus—each bringing their own strengths to the table.

This tea supports the nervous system, uplifts the spirit, and gently aids digestion, all while offering a boost of antioxidants. Tulsi and lemon verbena contribute calming nervine qualities, while rose hips and hibiscus add a bright dose of vitamin C. Spearmint and orange peel round it out with carminative action to ease the belly and refresh the senses.

Steep it strong and enjoy over ice for a delicious way to stay grounded, cool, and connected to the season.
