Linden (Tilia spp.), also called basswood or lime (UK), is a cold-hardy member of the Mallow family, related to Marshmallow, Hibiscus, and even Cacao. Its fragrant flowers bloom in mid-July here in Colorado, lasting just a few weeks.
Both the flowers and leaves can be brewed into a tea that offers:
•Gentle mucilaginous support for the respiratory and digestive tracts
•Nutritional nourishment from vitamins, minerals, and flavonoids
•Nervine properties to calm the nervous system and quiet the mind
•A mild, soothing addition to nighttime blends
Often planted in cities for their tolerance to pollution, compacted soil, and disturbance, Lindens are a resilient and underused herbal ally worth getting to know.
