This morning, I made one of my favorite breakfasts—simple, nourishing, grounding.

Food can be sacred like that. A quiet reminder to slow down and care for myself in the midst of everything.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about the space between grief and healing—the gap that’s full of questions, tension, and transformation.

Kind of like Moses and the Israelites—led by God into the wilderness, into what felt like a trap. They doubted. They wrestled. They sat with hard feelings.

And still, God led them. Every day.

This space—my plate, my morning, my process—is part of that journey.

Not always clear. But still holy.

So here’s to new beginnings, quiet moments, and the grace to keep showing up—body, mind, and soul- nephesh (נֶפֶשׁ).

nephesh (נֶפֶשׁ).
It’s a Hebrew word often translated as “soul” or “life” in the Bible, but its meaning is much richer—it can refer to the whole person, breath, desire, or the inner self.

“set your face like flint” comes from Isaiah 50:7 and speaks of unwavering determination and steadfastness in the face of opposition or difficulty.

To set your face like flint means to stand firm, resolved, and unshaken, fully trusting in God’s strength and purpose.

In practical terms, it’s about having a mindset that says:

“No matter what comes my way — hardship, criticism, or doubt — I will stay focused on what God has called me to do, with confidence that He will see me through.”

Embracing the Adventure

I’ve been invited to join a 66-day Journal Challenge and have been given permission to share the journey prompts. The focus for the first week is on self-awareness. Awareness is key to emotional wellness, helping you understand your feelings, their causes, and their impact on your actions.

As I begin this journey of intentional self-reflection, I will use the spoken Word of God as a lens to guide my perspective. The Bible outlines patterns for individual lives, woven from Genesis to Revelation. Use this time to identify patterns, and triggers, and deepen self-connection.

The Bible emphasizes self-awareness and control over emotions, thoughts, and actions. Verses like 1 Timothy 4:16 and Romans 12:3 stress self-examination and humility, while Galatians 6:3 warns against pride. Proverbs 20:5 and Jeremiah 17:9 reveal the heart’s depths and deceitfulness. Matthew 16:24-25 with Ephesians 4:22-24 urges believers to deny themselves and embrace their new self in Christ. Self-awareness is vital for living a godly life.

“The great philosopher Plato’s quote, ‘The unexamined life is not worth living,’ emphasizes the importance of self-reflection and understanding one’s reality.” Kannan, A. (2011, August 2).

This week is all about tuning in to yourself. Understanding your emotions is crucial for mental well-being. It allows you to explore the reasons behind your feelings and how they influence your behaviors. Take this opportunity to identify recurring patterns in your emotional responses, observe your triggers, and cultivate a stronger relationship with your authentic self.
