At this Trick or Treat event we provided snacks and My Hometown Health magazines filled with great health tips! We enjoyed being part of this fun community event and sharing healthy resources with local families. 👻🍎

🎃👻 Halloween Trick-or-Treating Tips for Better Communication! 👻🎃

Halloween is all about fun, costumes, and community — but it can also be a little overwhelming for some kids. Here are a few ways we can make trick-or-treating more inclusive and communication-friendly for everyone:

🗣️ Be patient – Some kids may be shy, nonverbal, or have speech delays. A smile and a “Happy Halloween!” go a long way, even if they don’t respond right away.

💡 Watch for communication badges or signs – Some trick-or-treaters use blue pumpkins, picture cards, or badges to communicate. Respect these as part of their way to connect!

🤝 Give visual cues – Holding out the candy bowl, pointing to the bucket, or using simple gestures can make the interaction smoother.

🎭 Celebrate effort over words – Whether a child says “trick or treat,” waves, or just beams with excitement — they’re participating, and that’s what matters!

🍬 Encourage inclusion – Talk to your kids about kindness and understanding that everyone communicates differently.

Certified Radiology Technologist Tisha Hendrixson, RT(R)(CT)(M), ARRT, guides patients through receiving a Genius 3D mammogram, which is a fast, non-invasive type of breast imaging that uses a low dose of x-rays to examine the breast for abnormalities, and can even show changes in breasts up to two years before patients
