We are delighted to announce this year's Halloween Art and Nature Festival themed "The Enchanted Forest", set for Saturday October 25!

The nature of South Louisiana’s forests, bayous, and swamps, is enchanting with their ethereal Spanish moss, fairy-like fireflies, mysteriously hooting owls, forest sirens, and “lamp-eater” amphiuma salamanders (among the largest amphibians in the world!), old-growth live oak trees, and so much more. We will explore how this magical nature shaped indigenous, Cajun, and Creole folklore, and through science, express the complex web of living connections in our special forest ecosystems.

Denise Gallagher created this year’s Enchanted Forest art referencing Louisiana folktales such as Madame Grand Droits (Lady Long Fingers), the feu follet (flames that lead unwitting travelers deeper into the swamp, a mischievous Latiche, Loup Garou, and more!

For the morning and afternoon session, we will host Southern artists and scientists as they create ways to talk with trees, sonify fungus, discover mycelial networks, explore the genetics of the Tree of Life, unicorn skeletons, and much more! Cosplay fairies, goblins, and other enchanted beings is encouraged.

An evening session will begin at 6 with an aerial performance, a Dungeons and Dragons tournament with a fantasy creature drawing contest, a glow-in-the-dark forest art installation, bat and bug hikes, other nocturnal activities, and camping after.

There was a time I thought healing meant erasing.

That somehow, if I was truly over it, I wouldn’t think about it anymore.
I wouldn’t remember the words that broke me,
the nights I cried myself to sleep, the moments I felt invisible in rooms I showed up for with all my heart.

I thought healing meant forgetting it all — as if the pain had to vanish for me to move forward.

But I’ve learned…
healing doesn’t mean forgetting.
It means remembering differently.

Now, I can revisit those memories without my voice shaking. I can sit with what once crushed me and feel peace instead of panic.
I still remember the betrayal, the heartbreak, the deep ache of disappointment — but it doesn’t own me anymore.

That’s healing.
It’s not about pretending it didn’t happen — it’s about becoming someone who’s no longer defined by it.

Healing is when the memory comes but the tears don’t.
The triggers lessen.
And the self-blame fades.
You stop asking what was wrong with you — and start understanding that what happened wasn’t your fault.

It’s slow. It’s messy.
But one day, you’ll wake up and realize that you remember all of it and you’re still standing.

That’s how I knew I was healing.
Not when I forgot,
But when I remembered and didn’t break.

If this is your journey too, I see you. I’m proud of you🩵. You’re not alone in this.

⭐️🍁🪐 If I could tell you just one thing right now,
I would say-I hope you do it. I hope you reach toward the thing you can't stop thinking about. I hope you walk down the unknown path that scares you but also holds the promise of something that feels honest and beautiful and right. I would tell you that this life is so short, and it goes by so fast, and you might as well be brave and foolish and risk it all for something that matters. And I would tell you to let go of the shoulds and ought tos that lead you down unaligned paths and ask yourself —what is my heart trying to tell me? And I hope you listen to that feeling and honor that feeling because it is real and valid and nobody can take that away from you. I would tell you to create the most beautiful life you can imagine for yourself. I would tell you that you do not have to settle for anything that tries to dim your light. And I would tell you-live. Live fully. Live courageously. Live inspired. Please. Just live.

I didn't realize how quiet I was until I start listening again.

Not to the world or the noise but to myself.
To the version I had buried under survival, silence, and self neglect.
Myself—soft, strong, scarred, and still standing.

Healing isn't pretty or soft.

It's neither quick nor linear. It's uncomfortable. Raw. Sometimes lonely.

But every moment I choose myself, every breath I take in honesty and wholeness— is proof that it's worth it🎗️.

Because reclaiming oneself? That's the most beautiful comeback there is🩷💫

If you're in the thick of it, keep going. Your voice is still in there. Let it rise.

It can be so hard to let go. Not only because of what you’re letting go of — but also because the process of letting go itself is not a one-and-done choice.

Letting go is, in fact, something you do over and over again. Every time you let go, you free yourself a little bit more, until suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, you realize that you have truly moved forward into a new phase of your life — one of greater peace and happiness.
