Meet our Counseling Intern, K.C. Dehning!

Q: If you could wake up tomorrow and have one quality or ability that you don’t currently have, what would that be?

A: It would by to better relate as a counselor to my clients that I have their best interest at heart and that I am there to help them through whatever difficult journey they are traveling.

Q: What is the most adventurous thing you’ve done?

A: The most adventurous thing I have done is to ride (at the time) on the world’s fastest, longest, and highest wooden rollercoaster with the seatbelt loose around the waist so I could really experience the weightlessness of the ride.

Q: What is your go-to karaoke song?

A: Since I don’t normally sing karaoke, I’m not sure I have a go to song. The only time I’ve sung karaoke was at a county fair and then I sang A Horse with No Name by American

Q: What have you been reading?

A: Apart from reading text books for my classes, I enjoy reading the Jack Ryan Universe books created by Tom Clancy. I also enjoy the Emberverse Series by S.M. Stirling.

Q: How would you describe your counseling style?

A: I would describe my counseling style as eclectic, drawing upon what I have been learning in my classes to best serve my clients.

Feeling the Winter Blues? Here are some suggestions:

Go out and soak in the sunlight.
Take some extra Vitamin D supplements.
Find a professional to talk to about the difficulties you're facing.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is real, and so are it's effects. Symptoms center on sad mood and low energy. Those most at risk are female, are younger, live far from the equator, and have family histories of depression, bipolar disorder, or SAD.

Treatment approaches typically include combinations of antidepressant medication, light therapy, Vitamin D, and counseling.

What is your favorite way to express yourself through art?

The therapeutic potential of art is vast and applicable to individuals of all age groups. Art therapy,... serves as a means for clients to delve into their inner thoughts, feelings and experiences through creative expression. When combined with talk therapy, art therapy aids individuals in managing intense emotions, fostering self-awareness and self-worth, and decreasing stress and anxiety.
