To the woman who knows the physical pains of birth, and to the woman who never had the opportunity to experience them. Thank you.

To the woman who has chosen not to have biological children, and to the woman who chooses to show up for those who are not biologically hers. Thank you.

To the woman who has lost her child, and to the child who has lost her mother. Thank you.

This Mother's Day I want to honor motherhood in all the ways it shows up -- because when it really comes down it, it's love -- fierce, selfless, powerful love, that makes this world a better place. I think we can all be deeply grateful for that.

If you're anything like us, you've felt the addictive nature of caffeine. Having a nice vanilla latte really sets up the morning and gets your energy going! But, caffeine doesn't really supply your body with energy. In actuality, it's a nervous system stimulant, meaning it acts to make you FEEL alert and awake without actually providing any fuel. Then? BAM. Caffeine crash.

Instead of coffee (no matter how amazing it tastes), we like to rely on other beverages and herbs in order to get a sustainable, natural, and effective morning boost. Here are three of our favorites:

⭐ Ginger: Yep! This punchy, fresh, and flavorful herb often seen in South Asian cooking has a lot of great energy boosting benefits.

🌱 Pseudostellaria Root: Though the name of this root is a bit of a mouthful, it's a TCM favorite for a reason: it increases your energy levels AND promotes your body's endurance efforts. It's also a great herb for maintaining the overall health of your respiratory system. Double whammy!

🍄 Reishi Mushrooms: These bad boys are known for increasing your alertness and energy levels. Plus, they have the added benefit of providing support for emotional tension (this leads to easier and better relaxation and z's).

Now, there are LOADS of other herbs and roots that function similarly, but everyone's needs and bodies are different. It's totally okay if you want to learn about your other options. Our practitioners are pretty much like herbal connoisseurs--they know the best of the best herbs and will listen to YOU about YOUR body and mind in order to help you find the best one for YOU.

In TCM, there are so many ways to access much needed relief and support for whatever ailments you're going through! Cupping is a great technique that TCM practitioners, like our team here at Be Well, use a TON.

Now, you may be asking yourself, what even IS cupping? Well, it's a technique that uses small glass cups or bamboo jars as suction devices. We place those on the skin to disperse and break up stagnation and congestion by drawing congested blood and energy to the surface.

“Where there’s stagnation, there will be pain. Remove the stagnation, and you remove the pain.”

This old Chinese medical maxim sums up exactly what cupping helps with. Body pain is typically rooted in congestion, stagnation, and/or blockage of Qi, and cupping is one of the best ways to kickstart the flow of energy that your body needs in order to feel its best again.

You know what they say--breakfast is the most important meal of the day! In Chinese Medicine, we believe that it is especially important that the first meal of the day is a WARM meal, especially if you're feeling under the weather or Spring allergies are kicking your butt. Put away the cereal and milk and breakfast bars--it's time to try out some new, warm, nourishing meals to kickstart your body and mind in the morning.

One of our favorite warm, healing, and comforting breakfast meals is...you guessed it. Oatmeal!

Ancient Chinese medical texts all say that oats are a very restorative food for the lungs, spleen, stomach, heart, large intestine, kidney organs, and your body's meridians. Topped with fresh summertime berries like raspberries and blackberries, you're in for a nutrition-packed breakfast choice.

If you want to take it a step further (and you're feeling REALLY sick), we recommend giving congee a shot! Congee is, essentially, an oatmeal porridge that harmonizes digestion and also supplements your blood and Qi. While you can absolutely choose to have water as the liquid base for this dish, we STRONGLY encourage you to try a bone broth base instead. Bone broth has been a fundamental part of most peoples’ diets around the world for thousands of years, and for good reason--it's chock full of vitamins, minerals, and collagen that your body needs to maintain and restore optimal health.

The cool thing about Traditional Chinese Medicine is that there is no one set formula or herbal prescription to help with treating your ailments – it's all based on the individual! When it comes to anxiety, we all feel it sometimes, and it can be a really isolating feeling. In Chinese medicine, anxiety is typically associated with disorder of the heart and shén , and to a lesser extent the liver and kidneys. The shén and hún are agitated by heat and constraint, or ungrounded and destabilized by heart qi, yin or even blood deficiency.

The the only way to help ease that terrible feeling is to get to the root of what's causing such an imbalance in your body. Instead of using traditional Western meds, TCM practitioners rely on other, more natural, ways of treating anxiety. Acu, in particular, has really rapid calming effects that really help with treating anxiety. Sooo...if you've been feeling anxious lately, we'd love chat about how we can help. Whether it be through acupuncture, an herbal remedy, cupping therapy, or a combo of all three, we'll work with you to find the right method of healing for your body.

It's important to take extra steps to take care of yourself and practice self-care on a daily basis, no matter WHAT season it is. However, during the springtime, we really like to put a little extra effort to treat ourselves since it is such a big time of change and transition.

Life and all of the changes that come along with it can be hard. Like, really hard. Sometimes there are things that we can't control that just happen, and we've gotta roll with the punches. But rolling with the punches can leave anyone feeling weary and absolutely exhausted.

Your body and your mind have an INSANELY intimate connection. Your body soaks up all of the stress and negative energy that weighs on your mind, and it can have many negative consequences on your body if you don't nip it in the bud. Whether it be carving out some time to get lost in your favorite book, spending time with loved ones, or attending a fun new pilates class, DO IT.

💕 Be bold by being kind to yourself and making time to do the things that nourish your soul. Your body and your mind will thank you for it!

In an effort to treat themselves, a lot of our patients have tried holistic microneedling in order to give them an extra boost of confidence. If you ever want to learn more about it or give it a shot, we'd love to meet with you to see if it's right for you!

🌷 Springtime is in full swing here in colorful Colorado.

Now, you may be experiencing some changes in your body as spring settles in. After all, spring is a HUGE transition season. During Spring our internal energy (Qi) flows REALLY strongly, which often can disrupt our body's balance.

Well, lucky for you, our herbalists are experts at listening to your needs and putting together a totally personalized blend of Chinese herbs so you can get back to feeling your best.

Have your acu sesh on the horizon? First off...we're so excited for you! This is such a HUGE step towards balancing out your bod. If you're a little nervous for your first time, it's totally normal. Here are a few things to expect and know so can go into your first session feeling confident and excited.

🍳 Eat a lil' somethin' before you come!
All in all, not much is needed to prep for a session--come as you are! However, we do like to advise our clients to nibble on something before their first session in order to avoid any lightheaded-ness.

😊 No, it won't hurt.
Cue the sigh of relief! Acupuncture needles are the size of a single human hair, and we use a painless style of treatment here at Be Well. Acupuncture is actually deeply relaxing – so much so that it's pretty common for people to fall asleep on the table during a session.

🌸 Spring has sprung! The shift in temperature is obvious, but can you also notice the change in you energy? There’s a flurry of activity in nature – from the behavior of local animals to the different seasonal fruits and vegetables bursting from the branches and soil. We need to adjust our activity and lifestyle to the energy of the season in order to experience vibrancy in our lives too.

Here are some of our favorite ways to support, nourish, and balance our bodies during the springtime:

✌️ Take it easy on the exercise: Remember–the seasons are going through a massive change, and that affects us energetically and physically. During the spring, it’s best not to shock your system by hitting the ground running (pun intended). Warm up first with gentle exercises that get your heart pumping but are low impact and low stress. Think yoga, pilates, or a nice hike!

🌿 Eat your Greens! Springtime is THE time to take extra good care of your liver, according to TCM. Eating young plants (fresh, leafy greens, and sprouts) can improve the liver's overall functions and aid in the movement of qi. Just look around and see what local greens you are available; those are the best and most delicious.

💤 Focus on getting good sleep: The liver loves fresh greens and gentle movement, but neither will help if you're not getting enough sleep. Now is an essential time for replenishment and for the liver to recover from the stresses of the day. The most important time of the night for REM sleep (when you should be in a deep sleep) is 1am-3am.

👍 Schedule that acu treatment! If you are still finding the transition into spring hard to tackle, come in for an acupuncture healing sesh. It can help regulate your Liver Qi and make you ready to embrace this new season!

If there's one thing everyone is talking about–from your yoga teacher to your marathon-loving bestie–it's the benefits they've been feeling from acupuncture and acupressure. But, you may be asking yourself...what's the difference?

Let us break it down for ya.

✨Acupuncture involves gently inserting hair-thin, disposable needles into the skin in order to reach acupuncture points along meridians (or energy pathways) that run along your body.

✨Similarly, acupressure involves reaching those acupuncture points too, but instead of needles, practitioners use fingers to apply pressure to the points.

Meridians are kind of like your body's highway system–they provide the quickest, most efficient connections for energy, blood, and information to travel from one part of the body to another.

Both practices achieve similar results body-wise:

💯Both prompt self-healing through upping the circulation of blog and releasing endorphins

👍🏼Both release muscle tension and stop pain by changing our chemical and hormonal signaling systems

❤️‍ Both treatments can improve a long list of issues like migraines, arthritis, digestive problems, menstrual irregularities, insomnia, and even fatigue! Talk about impressive.

If you need more deets on which one in particular works best for you, your body, and your situation, our practitioners would love to help you out.
