Chronic Venous Insufficiency, or vein disease, is a condition in which the veins in your legs don’t properly return blood to the heart. When the veins are damaged or weakened, blood can flow backward and begin to pool in the legs.
It often begins with subtle symptoms: heavy legs, cramping, or visible veins. Left untreated, it can progress to skin discoloration, ulcers, or even limb-threatening complications.

Dr. Satish Gadi, Interventional Cardiologist at CIS in Baton Rouge and Prairieville, is the first in the Capital Region to use the Javelin Peripheral Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) Catheter to treat peripheral artery disease (PAD) in the legs.
This device is designed to treat calcified blockages in the peripheral arteries, including the iliac, femoral, popliteal, and infra-popliteal arteries. Using controlled sonic pressure waves, the Javelin catheter gently fractures calcium within the artery wall, helping to restore vessel flexibility and enable successful crossing and treatment. This technology is used prior to balloon angioplasty or stenting to improve outcomes in heavily calcified arteries.

Ten years ago, Dr. Peter Fail performed a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for Mrs. Gloria Tregre of Houma—who is now celebrating her 100th birthday this July 4th!
To honor this incredible milestone, Dr. Fail and members of our research and structural heart team visited Mrs. Gloria today to celebrate not only her upcoming birthday, but also the strength, resilience, and heart she has shown since her procedure a decade ago.
The procedure treats severe aortic stenosis using a minimally invasive, catheter-based approach to replace the diseased valve—without the need for open-heart surgery. Aortic stenosis occurs when the aortic valve doesn’t open properly, preventing the heart from effectively pumping blood to the rest of the body.
Common symptoms include chest pain, fatigue, fainting, heart palpitations, or a heart murmur. If you or a loved one are experiencing these symptoms, call your nearest CIS clinic or visit www.cardio.com to learn more about your risk and treatment options.
