Honoring a loved one’s memory in a unique way involves personalizing the tribute to reflect their personality and passions. Here are some creative options...

Consider creating a memorial video with photos and favorite songs, organizing a charity event or donation in their name, or planting a tree or garden in their honor. You might also choose to have a memorial plaque or a custom-designed urn. Incorporate elements that were meaningful to them, such as their favorite activities or interests, to create a lasting and heartfelt tribute.

Discuss ideas with family members to ensure the tribute aligns with their wishes. If you'd like even more creative options, Striffler-Hamby Mortuary can help you explore them to find just the right touching tribute for your loved one, even well after their passing.

Understanding Power of Attorney After a Loved One Passes

Power of Attorney (POA) is a crucial document, but its authority ends upon the person's death. Here’s what you need to know:

📜 POA Termination: The authority granted by a POA ceases once the individual passes away. After death, the will and estate executor take over.

👨‍⚖️ Executor’s Role: The executor named in the will is responsible for managing the deceased’s estate, including asset distribution. However, unless they are granted responsibility in the will, this does not include funeral planning rights.

📝 Legal Documentation: Ensure all relevant legal documents, such as the will and death certificate, are in order to facilitate a smooth transition.

👥 Next Steps: If you were the POA, communicate with the executor and provide any necessary information or documents you managed on behalf of the deceased.

For guidance on handling estate matters after a loved one’s passing, our team is here to support you through this difficult time. Contact us for assistance.

Thinking about a pre-paid funeral plan? Here are some things to consider...

When choosing a pre-paid funeral plan, consider factors such as the reputation and reliability of the funeral home, the range of services included in the plan, and the flexibility to make changes if needed. Review the terms and conditions of the plan, including any refund policies or options for transferring the plan if you move.

Ensure that the plan is funded through a reputable financial institution or insurance policy. It’s also important to communicate your pre-paid plan details with your family to ensure they are aware of your arrangements and preferences.

Pre-need funeral arrangements are one of our specialties at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. If you think this is something you might like to get started, reach out to us, and let's schedule a time to explore your options.

Did You Know? 🤔
Being named an executor gives someone authority over a deceased person's assets, but not the right to decide on the disposition of the body or funeral arrangements. Those decisions typically fall to the next of kin or an individual named in a separate legal document. It's important to plan ahead to avoid confusion and ensure your final wishes are respected. 🌷
