A favorite food of an Armenian monk, Gregory of Nicopolis, brought gingerbread to Europe around 992 AD and taught French Christians to bake it. Since gingerbread was often used in religious ceremonies, monks baked to be sturdy to molded into images of saints.
We can thank the Brothers' Grimm for a gingerbread house, though. Through their tale of Hansel and Gretel, they introduce an evil witch who lives in a house made of gingerbread. It didn't take long for the German gingerbread guilds to pick up the idea. Soon, they put gingerbread houses to a more festive use making snowy cottages made from the spicy-sweet treat.

Today, we can spend the day baking, cutting, and building to our heart's delight. Kits take some steps out of the process so we can get right down to constructing our winter wonderlands.

So what can you do to stay healthy this winter?
Drink water. Winter may be a good time for hot cocoa and cider, but always make water your drink of choice. A glass of water with and between each meal can keep you hydrated, healthy and ready to fight off any germs winter may bring.
Stress less. Focus on your holiday traditions — don't worry about the rest. Make time for friends, family and good cheer, and embrace relaxation when you can.
Sleep enough. Don't neglect the value of sleep. Do all that you can to stick to your typical sleep schedule, even around all the celebrations and traveling.
Dress warmly. Instead of wearing one big coat, dress in several layers of loose, warm clothing. This will better protect you against wind and rain. If your clothes become wet, change them as soon as possible.
Exercise. Cold air sometimes can discourage you from keeping up with your fitness routines. It's easy to let these habits slide for the season, but remember that regular activity can keep you healthy, both mentally and physically.
Keep the germs away. Three words: Wash your hands. This is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick and spreading common winter illnesses, such as colds. Germs accumulate through nearly everything you do or touch, so wash your hands frequently. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, scrubbing all surfaces and rinsing well. Also, get flu and COVID-19 vaccines to avoid being sick during the coldest time of year.

Benefits of Slime:
• Boosts awareness, language, and cognitive skills.

Slime also makes a great educational teaching tool. For older kids, you can make slime in science class to learn about Newtons Law. Making homemade slime also teaches measurements, reading, following directions, and math.

FB 12/5 Holiday food safety relies on the "Clean, Separate, Cook, and Chill" principles to prevent foodborne illnesses. This includes washing your hands and surfaces often, keeping raw and ready-to-eat foods separate, cooking food to the proper internal temperature, and refrigerating perishable foods within two hours.

Clean
• Wash hands frequently: with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds, especially after handling raw meat, poultry, or seafood.
• Wash surfaces and utensils: with hot, soapy water.
• Rinse fresh produce: under cool running water, using a produce brush to scrub away dirt.
• Use pasteurized eggs: for dishes that might contain raw eggs.
• Wash hands before, during, and after food preparation. Remember to wash hands when switching tasks, such as handling raw meat.
Separate
• Keep raw meats, poultry, and seafood separate: from other foods to prevent cross-contamination.
• Use separate cutting boards: for raw meats and ready-to-eat items like vegetables and fruits.
• Store raw meats in sealed containers: or plastic bags on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator to prevent juices from dripping onto other foods.
Cook
• Use a food thermometer: to ensure food is cooked to a safe internal temperature, as color is not a reliable indicator of doneness.
• Cook turkey and stuffing to 165∘F
• Keep hot foods at or above 140∘F
• Cold foods at or below 40∘F
Chill
• Refrigerate perishable foods within two hours: of cooking or purchasing.
• Thaw frozen food safely: in the refrigerator, in a cold water bath, or in the microwave—never on the counter.
• Divide leftovers into shallow containers: for faster cooling and refrigerate promptly.
• Discard perishable food: that has been left at room temperature for more than two hours.

On December 4th, Santa’s List Day celebrates the day that Santa puts together his list of naughty and nice children. It’s also a day for kids to start working on their holiday wish lists.

Fun Facts About Santa:
1. The legend of Santa dates all the way back to 280 A.D. This is when the real St. Nicholas was born in modern-day Turkey.
2. The whole idea of kids being naughty or nice may have come from 16th century Holland. Before there were stockings, parents placed their children’s clogs near the fireplace.
3. “Good” children would find candy or cookies in their clogs. “Naughty” children, however, would find a lump of coal.
4. The first mention of Santa’s naughty-and-nice list was in the song “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
