Hello! Here is a short (ish) video explaining how I work when I treat patients. The brief overview is that I keep my daily patient count low so that I can devote a lot of attention and energy to each patient. My goal is to make you feel seen, heard, and validated while thoroughly addressing all of your concerns within the session. I spend plenty of time listening to you tell your story before you lie down for your treatment, and once the acupuncture begins I continuously check in with you as we work to see what is shifting and if you’re feeling comfortable. It is thorough and sensitive, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously! We will definitely share a few laughs along the way. These are two of the most frequently asked questions I encounter as an acupuncturist, and I’m always happy to answer!

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the practice of inserting extremely fine needles into specific points on the body to elicit a therapeutic effect. Whether you’re dealing with pain (chronic or acute) or trauma, or an emotional concern, acupuncture can treat it! Acupuncture treats a wide range of conditions successfully, and patients report that the entire experience is relaxing and balancing, leaving them feeling refreshed.

Typically, the experience of getting acupuncture, or being “needled” as we like to say, is painless, but may come with some sensations such as a dull ache or heavy feeling near the needle insertion, warmth or a little temporary itchiness, or a sensation of energy traveling down a limb. These sensations are usually easily manageable and dissipate within a few seconds. Altogether, it is a lovely experience with a high rate of efficacy!

So, can it help you?

There is a very high probability that it can! While there are never any guarantees with any treatment modality, acupuncture has an impressive rate of success. Welcome to Offering! My name is Angela Maffia. I’m a licensed acupuncturist serving the Hudson Valley community. I treat a variety of health concerns with the utmost care and compassion. The first session is an hour and a half long. We do a comprehensive medical history and discuss at length your current state of health and your goals for treatment. Once we make you comfortable on the treatment table, I will take your pulses to establish a diagnosis, insert needles into the relevant acupuncture points, and depending upon your needs you will receive an additional modality such as cupping, gua sha, Tui Na massage, or moxibustion.

✨I am also a Reiki practitioner and often use this modality in my acupuncture sessions.✨

After the first session, we will discuss your course of treatment, and future session frequency (once a week, once every two weeks, etc.) as well as session length (I offer hour long sessions, 45 minute sessions, and **only when appropriate** 30 minute sessions) at different price points to maintain accessibility to treatment as I do not take insurance.
