Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Did you know that covering mirrors is a long-standing Irish wake tradition, with echoes of similar customs around the world. Mirrors are veiled so the departed spirit won’t become trapped in the glass. Windows are opened wide to let the soul leave freely.

But take care - never stand between the spirit and the open window… or you may block their passage and invite a curse.

Meet Rebecca! You can read a bit about her below. Leave a comment and say hi!

“I’ve been at McCormick & Son for 24 years. I wanted to come into the Death Care industry because I saw it as a way to help my community. Watching my father do it my whole life gave me a scenes of pride in helping others through the hardest time in their life. I was always taught this work is the last corporal act of mercy we can show someone.
I am from right here. I was born in Laguna Beach, Ca at Orange Coast Medical Center, which is now Providence Mission Hospital, Laguna Beach.
I love spending time with my husband and my kids. We love going to the beach where we play in the sand and fish. And when we can get away, I love a quiet steak dinner for date night. I also love taking walks around Dana Point with our dog, and getting ice cream at the shops down town. I also LOVE cooking and watching movies.
Working with and for my family has given me a lot of purpose. I hope I am showing my children and my community what it means to serve people in need.”

Did you know that you can rent a casket?

Visitations and viewings can play an important role in the healing process, giving families the time and space they need for closure. And yes - this is absolutely possible even when choosing cremation.

Many families are surprised to learn that you can rent a casket just for service. Afterward, your loved one can be placed in a sturdy cremation container for the cremation itself.

It’s all about honoring your loved one in the way that feels right for your family.

Should we bury daylight savings time? 🕰️

Today we time the clocks forward but should we? Studies have found an increase in sleep deprivation, heart attacks, workplace injuries, and car accidents. But on the other side it’s provides us with more daylight hours. And more daylight hours can boost certain industries and may provide some safety benefits.

There are lots of reasons but comment if you think we should keep it or is it a bit necessary anymore.

The tradition of wearing black to a funeral is believed to date back to the Roman period, where individuals would wear a dark toga (known as a toga pulla) after the passing of a loved one. This tradition persisted throughout British history, with the Victorians in particular favoring black. Black now considered the color of mourning.

On Love Your Pet Day, we honor the quiet healers in our lives...our pets. 🐾

In seasons of grief, they sit beside us without words, offering steady love, comfort, and companionship when we need it most. Their presence reminds us that even in sorrow, we are never truly alone.

Today we celebrate the paws that comfort heavy hearts. ❤️
