Most endurance athletes would benefit from some form of strength or supportive training. There are many possible benefits of adding some strength training to your training routine. Some of these benefits include increased fatigue resistance, increased bone health, and possible injury risk mitigation. There is no guarantee to prevent injury, but anyway to reduce the risk should be a part of your routine in order help keep you training.

Don’t over think what you are doing with your strength training and try to do the most complicated types of exercises just focus on the basics. Include some lower body exercise, core, a push and a pull movement. Keep it short and simple just be consistent. Building strength is just like building aerobic fitness, it does not happen quickly and if you try to skip steps you increase your changes of getting injured. Slow steady progress is the best thing for you and your training.

Ironman training with a family and a full time job? I can relate. Your time is possibly your most valuable commodity, so what if I told you we could cut your physical therapy visits in half?

Raise your hand if you’ve been to a chiropractor, been placed on a massage table, cracked, snapped, and prescribed a few more months of the same treatment 3 times a week. 🙋‍♂️ What about a physical therapy clinic, have you ever spent more time with an aid and a foam roller then with the PT you paid to see? 🙋‍♂️

Here’s the thing, I’ve worked in these settings. I’ve seen the lack of results and I am really excited to offer something new.

One on One treatment with me. It’s amazing what kind of progress can be made in an hour. Schedule your free phone assessment before you pay anything for your first treatment.

RACE WARM UP TIPS
With starting up this Thursday, it’s the perfect opportunity to give a few pointers from the perspective of a pt and coach!

1. Warm up should include whatever activity/motion happening during your race. Make sure to start easy, and build to race intensity.

2. Don’t overextend your warm up and cause fatigue. The only goal is to feel ready for that surge of intensity, minimizing that drastic change in heart rate/out of breath feeling minutes into a race start.

3. For shorter races with more explosive starts, make sure your warm up includes a few short but high intensity surges to touch upon the different energy systems you’ll be using throughout the race.

4. If you feel the need to stretch, it should be done post active warmup. Stretching before a race is not the same as a warmup, and won’t get you the same results in preparing your body for the starting line.

Any questions about warmup, drop them below!!
