Massage therapy can benefit you in helping to alleviate the symptoms of depression and anxiety by working with your parasympathetic system or “rest and recoup” system. It does this by stimulating the release of hormones such as dopamine and serotonin or the “feel good” hormones.

Endorphins: When the skin's nerve cells feel pressure from massage, they signal the brain to release endorphins, which are feel-good chemicals that boost mood.

Stress hormones: Massage can decrease the production of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline.

Serotonin and dopamine: Massage can increase the production of serotonin and dopamine in the brain.
