Just a few quick updates!

Aloha and mahalo for reading this! Just wanted to check in and say hello and give an update about my cancer treatment journey! I have completed 3 rounds of chemotherapy and have tolerated it quite well so far. I have 2 hard days following each infusion with about 12 hours of fatigue, nausea, headache & joint pain. This happens on day 3 & 4 and then it passes and I feel better. The fatigue remains for about 5-6 days and by day 8, I am back outside on my early morning 2.5 mile walks and lifting weights. This past round, I shook off the funk a little faster and believe it's the healing ocean waters that helped. I would walk on the beach, sip my coffee and then soak in the waters off Baby Beach. So far, my efforts to consume an iron rich diet of leafy greens, bison, venison & legumes, aswell as increasing foods high in vitamin C and B12, helped my RBC's, Hematocrit and Hemoglobin all stay within a healthy normal range. I also added a food based iron supplement called Floradix. This has been encouraging. According to my Oncologist, he doesn't anticipate this getting worse but staying about the same. I am officially half way done and feel like I can handle the rest.

I am also reaching out to inform you that I have partnered with an online dispensary for medical grade supplements called Fullscript. If you are interested in purchasing high quality supplements with free shipping, the link to setup an account is below. I am offering a 20% discount for the first order. Fullscript offers a variety of brands of medical grade supplements with the highest quality ingredients and has free shipping on orders over $50. In the coming weeks, I will be sending out some information regarding some detox protocols as well as some supplements that I have been using, safely, while going through my cancer treatment journey. If you have any questions or would like help getting started on a program of your own, please reach out and I am happy to assist you with recommendations to help you achieve your health goals.

I also wanted to send out another referral for massage therapy while I am out of the office. Emily Cohen has been practicing in the office for about a year and half. She has been doing massage for many years and specializes in sports massage using hot towels, hot stones & stretches to compliment her massage treatments. She has opened another day in her schedule and is currently accepting new clients. Her rates are posted on her booking site which you can access below. Again, huge mahalo to you all for the continued support, prayers and well wishes! I plan to be back in action in the new year full time, healthier than ever! Take care, lots of love and ALOHA - Sandi

Thanks for your support!

Aloha! Just a quick update....I have decided to step back from clinical practice through the end of the year and re-open full time in January 2026. Although I am doing quite well and seem to have tolerated the first 2 chemotherapy sessions fairly well, from day to day, side effects change and new ones appear. It's difficult to predict from day to day, my energy levels as well as my needs. As we approach cold & flu season, I feel especially vulnerable and don't want to risk getting sick while compromised. So far, I have experienced mostly bone pain, extreme fatigue and nausea on just day 3 & day 4 following a chemo infusion. Days 5,6 & 7, I am still fatigued but the pain and nausea subside. This last cycle, by day 9, I was back out walking 2.5 miles everyday and back to lifting weights. The oncologist says exercise as much as my body can tolerate it and that seems to keep me going but also wipes me out. I have purchased a mild hyperbaric oxygen chamber (HBOT) and started using oxygen therapy 7 days after infusions. I am also receiving a high dose Vit C IV every 3 weeks, strategically on day 10 of the chemo cycle to support white blood cells and my immune system. I am doing acupuncture and moxibustion on myself and also getting treatments at the Lahaina Comprehensive Health Center. When I am done with chemotherapy, I plan to pursue some alternative treatments like the Ivermectin/Mebendazole protocol as well as more IV therapy and possibly Ozone IV. For now, I am limited to what I can take because it may interfere with the efficacy of chemotherapy or increase toxicity. Please know I have researched every inch of the cancer treatment world and I believe there are a lot of fraudulent claims out there. To date, every person I know that has tried to treat cancer 100% naturally or alternatively, has died or is currently suffering greatly as their cancer has spread throughout their body. This is why I have chosen an integrative path. Mahalo in advance for respecting my choice and my path.

In the new year, I will be offering HBOT sessions and will be going through a certification so stay tuned for more info about Oxygen Therapy. Also, the last email I sent out about the new fee schedule was not received well and seemed to be a bit too complicated so I have revised treatments and fees to be more simple. I have increased rates by $20 for the Initial Visit and 90 min acupuncture/massage combo. Follow up visits, I have increased the price $10 and will still include 10-15 mins of massage. When using insurance for acupuncture treatments, copays are the same. When booking a 90 min acupuncture/massage combo, the copay is $40 for all insurances, and 2 sessions will get billed to insurance, one for acupuncture & one for massage therapy. I hope that makes sense and is clear. If not, please reach out to me with questions. Below is a list of referrals for those seeking care between now and January. As always, huge MAHALOS for keeping me in your prayers!

Aloha and thank you for reading this! I have been feeling great and have decided to open up a few days next week and the following before my next infusion. I have made a few changes to my services & fees. I have given up my second room and am working from one treatment room only. This allows me to focus my attention on one patient at a time. Although I have been holding off for as long as possible, it is time for me to raise my rates and charge separately for massage therapy when insurance does not actually reimburse for it. These changes will not impact coverage through the VA, Work Comp or No fault Auto. Mostly these changes will impact managed healthcare insurance coverage such as Kaiser, HMSA, HMAA, UHA & Humana. Customers paying out of pocket will have different treatment options to choose from and services including massage therapy will cost a little more then before. Below are the new service options:

Orthopedic Acupuncture - 60 minutes $150 - A comprehensive treatment focusing on pain management of either chronic or acute musculo-skeletal conditions. This treatment includes sports medicine acupuncture, electro-stimulation, infra-red heat therapy, dynamic & static cupping & therapeutic massage techniques to release soft tissue. This 60 minute session focuses on one or two injuries on one side of the body. If there are multiple areas of focus or areas on both the front & back of the body, please book a 90 minute session. If using insurance when booking this service, please note additional copays apply.

Orthopedic Acupuncture - 90 minutes - $200
A comprehensive treatment focusing on pain management of either chronic or acute musculo-skeletal conditions. This treatment includes sports medicine acupuncture, electro-stimulation, infra-red heat therapy, dynamic & static cupping & therapeutic massage techniques to release soft tissue. This 90 minute session focuses on multiple areas or more complex conditions on both the front and back of the body. If using insurance when booking this service, please note additional copays apply and two visits will be billed, one for acupuncture & one for massage therapy.

Initial Acupuncture - Internal Medicine TCM 60 mins $140
A comprehensive traditional Chinese medicine intake & evaluation including pulse and tongue diagnosis to address internal conditions such as digestive disorders, stress management & hormone imbalance. Chinese herbal medicine is prescribed in addition to dietary and lifestyle modifications. Labs may also be recommended. This session does not include therapeutic massage.

Follow-up Acupuncture - Internal Medicine TCM 45 mins $100
This session is a continuation of care for internal medical conditions such as digestive disorders, hormone imbalance & stress management. This session does not include therapeutic massage but you may add 15 minutes for an additional $2 per minute. Please add a note in the booking if interested in adding massage therapy to your session.

I have contacted each individual insurance company and confirmed the coverage and reimbursement rates. The new copay rates are set based on the reimbursement rate and the coverage. This list will be uploaded to my website. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Currently I am not offering massage therapy without acupuncture. I am focusing on Acupuncture treatment and Acupuncture/Massage therapy Combinations.

Also very important, I am not currently treating any acute illness or acute respiratory conditions. If you have or are planning to receive any vaccinations, please wait at least 3 weeks before booking a session. I look forward to getting back into the office and working part -time! Aloha and thank you for taking the time to read this update. I feel its a bit overdue so I apologize. Following my second surgery which was on July 7th in San Diego, where I had a complete hysterectomy and what's called a debulking and proper staging surgery. They take tissue samples, lymph nodes and tissues called the omentum, which is the fatty apron that sits on top of the intestines, under the abdominal muscles. They do this to make sure the cancer cells have not spread outside of the pelvic cavity. I also had CT scans of my chest abdomen and pelvis and they were clear. I had a fairly quick recovery from this procedure and the pathology results revealed a small lesion in the left o***y that was .4cm in size and was cancerous. All other samples tested negative for cancer keeping the stage at 2A which is very great news.

On August 1, I had my port for chemotherapy put in and that was no fun but it has also healed up quickly and I have been able to resume most activities. On August 14th, I started chemotherapy. If all goes as planned, I will undergo 6 rounds of Carboplatin/Pacletaxel combination, every 3 weeks. The first session was a success and I did not experience any adverse reactions during the infusion. This was my biggest fear, having some sort of allergic reaction. About 48 hours after the infusion, I experienced some side effects, fatigue, bone pain and nausea. This lasted for 2 days and then decreased enough that I was able to get out and go for a walk. Today is day 7 since the infusion and I am feeling nearly 100%. Prior to my first chemotherapy session, the doctor orders blood work to check that levels are optimal and liver and kidney functions are healthy enough to receive the chemo infusion. At that time they also checked a blood marker for Ovarian Cancer called CA 125. Prior to my first surgery, my CA 125 had been elevated to 70, normal is below 30. On August 12, my CA 125 went all the way down to 25. This is excellent news!
As for my return to the office, I am uncertain at this time exactly when I will be getting back into clinical practice. I am considering working a few days here and there in between infusions if I feel up for it, but I have concerns about my immune system and the potential for exposure to colds and flu while immune compromised as a result of the chemotherapy. When I do return, it will be a modified schedule and I won't be focusing so much on massage therapy but mostly acupuncture treatments. Going through this treatment, there are so many unknowns so I am trying to take things day by day.
Please feel free to reach out if you want to stay in touch!
That's all for now!
Lot's of Love and ALOHA-
Sandi

QUICK HUMANA UPDATE

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou! (Happy New Year!) Hope you are having a wonderful holiday season. The new year is always a little bit hectic with insurance coverage changes. Unfortunately, HUMANA has made some big changes for 2025 and will only have one plan that covers routine acupuncture.
This plan is PPO H5216-313, and everyone will have a $10 -Copay. Although there is a LUMBAR PAIN ONLY PLAN, HMO like years previous, I will NOT be participating with the HMO/LUMBAR PAIN PLAN, as this is very complicated and requires a referral and gets billed directly to medicare, which I DO NOT DO!
If you have any questions regarding your HUMANA policy and coverage, Please contact Robin Imonti (808)265-9251. Although the open enrollment period has closed, there is a special election period extension due to Maui wildfires, so please contact her immediately and she can help you with any changes. As always, I strive to provide the most current information regarding insurance coverages and continue to support my mission to help our community have "access to care" through acupuncture, massage therapy & chinese medicine.

Aloha to you all! Hope everyone is doing well and finding a healthy pace during these times! I am forever grateful for each of you and appreciate your support and business especially during the past year with so much change & transition. I have finally completed some finishing touches on the new space and we are looking forward to the new year. My holiday schedule is out and I have added more openings for massage therapy. If you are interested in using your acupuncture benefit for massage therapy or a 90 minute acupuncture & massage therapy combination, please reach out to me and I will give you the details (additional Co-pays may apply). In mid November, I am taking a specialized Gua-Sha training on Oahu called Graston Technique that uses a unique set of instruments to break up scar tissue and adhesions. I am excited to incorporate this modality into my sessions. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out. As usual, booking online is always the fastest and most up to date information regarding scheduling, however, please contact me if you have any trouble. Also, if there is a specific day, time & treatment you are looking for, the waitlist feature is very helpful as it notifies me that you are on the radar for an appointment that day. I try to leave wiggle room and can make accommodations. Wishing you all a very wonderful holiday season. Mahalo - Sandi Lee Haff, LAC, LMT (808)250-7663
