This is the 1901 Waukegan, Illinois High School football team. The little guy in the middle with his hands on his hips is my grandfather. He was a fullback. His story was that he had a belt with handles on the sides and in short yardage situations the two larger halfbacks would pick him up and throw him over the line of scrimmage. These are the pictures and stories that make genealogy fun.
