Starting my own business was a leap that came with significant challenges. One of the most difficult parts was not being able to inform my clients directly about my transition due to legal considerations. This meant that many of them did not know I was continuing my foot care services independently. Despite these hurdles, I was determined to reconnect with them.

I dedicated myself to community outreach, joining local groups, distributing flyers, hosting educational events, and placing ads to spread the word that I was still there to provide specialized foot care. Over time, I managed to reconnect with most of my former clients, though some found me only later, and our renewed bonds were bittersweet.

I share this not for sympathy but to inspire others who may be hesitant about taking their own bold step forward. It was not easy to take that risk and face uncertainty, but it has taught me that meaningful connections, built on trust and care, have a way of finding their way back to you. Even if those moments are brief, they are deeply meaningful and remind us why we chose this path.

If you're contemplating a big step in your career, trust your dedication and take the leap. It won’t come without its challenges, but the rewards of resilience and reconnection make it worthwhile.

Behind the scenes:

My 8-year-old son Gerrit is helping me refill the 'no-rinse' foam to prepare for the busy weeks ahead. As many of you know, I don’t soak feet because it increases the risk of infection, so I use this foam to clean the feet and legs instead.

Grandma always taught me to leave things better than you found them, and I carry that lesson into the services I provide.

Every day, without fail, my three kids are by my side, eagerly asking what project they can help with next. I barely get a chance to explain what I’m doing before they chime in, ‘Can we help?!’

Forever FootCare is a small, family-oriented business focused on treating you or your family member as we do one another—with love and compassion.

I feel truly blessed and grateful. Without my family’s support, this business wouldn’t be what it is today.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of presenting at Hill Street in Marshall, MN, where I shared the dedication and care I've cultivated over nearly six years. Engaging with a larger audience than I expected was a deeply meaningful experience, and I cherished the opportunity to connect with everyone present.

I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to a courageous volunteer who generously allowed me to share video clips of her care journey. We discussed the significance of sharing our experiences, highlighting how even one individual’s story can inspire and educate others. Given the personal nature of foot care, her willingness to step into the spotlight was both admirable and impactful.

Additionally, I am profoundly grateful to Susie and her team for organizing this event. Their commitment to promoting education and support for caregivers is truly inspiring and essential for fostering positive change within our community. It is through these shared experiences and collective efforts that we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

FYI: Nation wide outage with Verizon carriers. They report it could be a few hours before you are able to get service. This has not necessarily affected every Verizon carrier, but unfortunately it has affected my work #605-651-1362. I hope they are up and running soon.

Who says you can't savor a homemade cookie or two at 8 a.m. after a foot care visit?

Serving in my close-knit rural communities has really opened my eyes to how connected we all are. I feel incredibly blessed to deepen these connections since starting my business—it's given me the chance to spend more time with your loved ones and truly get to know them.

Sometimes, these relationships surprise me in the best ways—like when I'm gifted homemade treats from friends.

I was so thrilled, I could’ve jumped for joy (and maybe I did—too bad I didn’t catch it on video!).

It got me thinking: wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could just trade homemade goods for foot care? If only that could cover the bills!
