Interprofessional Community Clinic

Interprofessional Community Clinic The Interprofessional Community Clinic (ICC) aims to provide quality healthcare for uninsured adults

MISSION
To 1) provide accessible, quality healthcare for the uninsured persons in the Lake County community with dignity, respect, and cultural humility, and 2) encourage future healthcare professionals to work in underserved communities and excel in interprofessional communication and teamwork, with an intentional emphasis on the principles of diversity, inclusion, and equity. HISTORY OF THE CLIN

IC
Founded in 2013 by students from the Chicago Medical School, the ICC now has students from the various degree programs (allopathic medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, podiatric medicine, and psychology) working together in interprofessional teams to provide accessible, quality healthcare to non-insured residents of the surrounding communities. SERVICES
We provide primary care services for basic acute illness, vaccinations, and chronic-care issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease. Patients are seen by an interprofessional student team made up of medical, physician assistant, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, or podiatry students, and treated by a supervising healthcare provider. During your visit, we can help design a health plan for you, as well schedule appointments for additional needs you may have, including podiatry, behavioral health, and physical therapy. We can also provide referrals to nearby free clinics for diagnostic testing and other supportive services. INTERPRETATION
We offer Spanish to English interpretation service for our Spanish-speaking patients to communicate with their providers in the language they are comfortable using.

Our next panel highlight is the amazing Patient Education panel!
Overseen by Executive Officer Morgan Perry, this panel creates and provides educational materials and courses to the local population, such as instructions on how to utilize a pulse oximeter and glucometer. This panel also sets up and maintains the ICC's food pantry.
Recently, thanks to the Patient Education panel, the ICC became certified to carry Naloxone, a life-saving medication used in overdoses, in our food pantry. The panel also recently organized an end of year food drive, where students moving out of campus housing donated unopened, non-perishable items for the food pantry!

Introducing the ICC's first student volunteers of the month: Isabella Trancoso and Talia Gierut, two of our PADS panelists!

PADS Lake County is a community-based organization that provides trauma-informed support, resources, and shelter to individuals and families experiencing a housing crisis. Last month, the ICC PADS Panel and The American Public Health Association (APHA) group at RFU teamed up to raise money for a thrifting event, spearheaded by Isabella and Talia, to collect clothing to donate to the PADS organization. We were able to donate around $500 worth of clothing to the PADS organization! Thank you so much to Isabella and Talia for your contributions to our local community, and congratulations on this fantastic achievement!

Joining an ICI panel is a wonderful way to serve our local community and gain rewarding clinical experience. In the words of the 2023 Executive Officer of Telehealth and Psychology, Aayush Gupta, “Volunteering with the ICC has helped me stay connected to why I wanted to pursue medicine in the first place: patient care. The ICC has given me the chance to put the lessons I’ve learned from class into action and to see the real world impact that medical professionals can have on patients’ lives.”

Applications are open now and due on Sunday, March 31st! Apply via the link in bio.
