All three of those have their own functions, but only proteins and fats are essential for the body.

However, studies support the fact that carbohydrates are simply the KING of high performance!

And that makes sense because muscle glycogen (stored carbs) have a much simpler structure, making them easily and rapidly releasable during a high-intensity performance.

This implies that the cyclical approach to keto, where you have carbs on training days, may be one of the better options for active trainees who follow the ketogenic diet.

The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that in medicine is used primarily to treat certain conditions.

The diet forces the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates.

Normally, the carbohydrates contained in food are converted into glucose, which is then transported around the body and is particularly important in fueling brain function.

However, if there is little carbohydrate in the diet, the liver converts fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies.

The ketone bodies pass into the brain and replace glucose as an energy source.
This is the theory in short!

However, in practice, there are many difficulties that people encounter with this type of diet.
Such can be an initial "keto flu,” fatigue, low energy, flat-looking muscles, etc.

There are different types of keto, which can be divided into five main categories:

MCT Keto - Focuses on Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs)
Calorie-restricted - Calories are set to a certain amount
Cyclical - Includes high-carb days
Targeted - Includes carbs timed to workouts
High Protein - Uses more protein than standard keto

So before you go on to exclude keto as an option, make sure to try the different approaches and see if you can find something sustainable.

Remember, the most important thing about a nutrition plan is your ability to adhere and stick to it!

The ketogenic diet has gained lots of traction in recent years, and well, for a good reason!

Certainly, keto doesn’t work like magic, but it provides an abundance of the two most satiating nutrients!

Those are namely proteins and fats, both of which can bring forward the feeling of satiation, thus making you feel satisfied with your meals.

Because of this fact, it is far less likely for you to overeat, and you don’t even think about foods, nor do you have massive cravings!

All of this makes it easy for you to create a caloric deficit and lose fat!
