The Power of Role-Playing for Kids in High-Pressure Situations

One of the most effective strategies to prepare children for high-pressure scenarios is through role-playing. While they may initially roll their eyes, rest assured—this method truly works! (We have heard countless stories from parents who have done this with great success.)

By practicing various scenarios, children build confidence, ensuring they aren’t caught off guard or struggling to find the right words when real-life situations arise.

Whether they confront peer pressure to drink, v**e, or use drugs, navigate an awkward date, or encounter a risky situation, role-playing enables them to develop responses that feel genuine -not forced. Encourage your tween or teen to modify the wording so it reflects their own voice, and remind them that establishing boundaries isn’t rude - it’s essential. The more they practice, the easier it will be for them to assert themselves when it truly matters.

(And here’s a tip many parents tell their kids they can always use them as an excuse to get out of a tough situation. Being the “bad guy” is a role most parents are more than happy to play if it helps keep their child safe.)

Whooping Cough (Pertussis) Cases Are Rising in Louisiana
Louisiana is experiencing its worst pertussis outbreak in 35 years - with hundreds of cases and infants most at risk. We’re now seeing cases right here in Southwest Louisiana.
Why it matters:
Infants under 1 are the most vulnerable and can develop serious complications.
Vaccination is the best protection. DTaP and Tdap vaccines are safe and effective, but immunity does wane over time - boosters are essential.
Pregnant mothers should receive Tdap during each pregnancy to help protect their newborns.
What you can do now:
Keep children on schedule with their vaccines.
Make sure older siblings, parents, and caregivers are up to date with Tdap.
Call us if your child has persistent cough, vomiting, or breathing difficulties - early treatment matters.
We’re here to keep your family safe and healthy. If you have questions about vaccines or symptoms, call us today, 337-478-6480.

🌡️ Fever? Don’t Worry!
Fever is the body’s natural way of fighting infection.
Here’s when to call the doctor:
✔️ Infants under 3 months – Any fever exceeding 100.4°F.
✔️ Older kids – If the fever persists for more than 3 days, or if your child appears lethargic, dehydrated, or has difficulty breathing.
✔️ No emergency if - Your child is active, drinking fluids, and responding normally.
Most fevers typically resolve on their own—focus on hydration and rest!
