The program will consist of fourteen Thursday night sessions from Jan 22nd to May 7th. The sessions will be held at the LSU on-campus Hill Farm Teaching Facility in Baton Rouge.

Yesterday after getting off work and picking up my youngest from aftercare, I had less than an hour to cook and feed them before leaving for Bible study.
This sticky chicken is a quick meal and always a hit. The boys had it with mashed potatoes and cucumber salad. I had cilantro lime rice with brussels sprouts and carrots.
Having a list of quick and easy meals to pull from is essential to eating healthy most of the time.
Comment below if you’d like a list of some of my go-to meals.

My lil feelings got hurt today because I just knew I was going to get a chicken strawberry salad at the Saints game like last year. Only to find a house salad and sweet potato salad that didn’t look half as good as the old one at a higher cost…

What better way to stay cool than fresh juice and smoothies. Kyle had stressless. I had energizer and a wellness shot. Kam went with the mango magic. Next stop is Moncus Park playground.

Scratch Farm Kitchen never disappoints, so I brought the boys for the first time. They ordered a breakfast burrito with chicken and rated it a 9/10 and 10/10. I had the hash bowl with bacon. Kam asked if we could come back for lunch and dinner. I wish..

BMI is only one measure, and no it’s not fully representative of health status.
It’s not for black women. It’s also not useful for people with a high muscle mass such as athletes. That said, a lot of people are still overweight by other measures.
You should know your waist to hip ratio, percent body fat, blood pressure, A1C, lipid levels for a better idea of your metabolic health.
Although I personally don’t focus a lot on BMI, I still calculate it. If yours is above 30 then your health and risk of chronic disease would likely benefit from some weight loss.
Body mass index, or BMI, is a screening tool to identify whether an adult is at a healthy weight or at risk for heart diseases or stroke. If based on your height and weight you are at moderate or high risk, losing weight and keeping it off can help. Start with small steps, like moving more and sitting less every day.

All children in Calcasieu Parish are able to eat FREE school breakfast and lunch.
Kids should not be skipping meals routinely.
If you have a picky eater, review the menu so you know when you need to pack a lunch or eat breakfasts before school.
At my house, the menu is printed and placed on the refrigerator. It’s the boys responsibility to look, say what they don’t prefer, and would like a replacement for.

Compared to a typical American diet, a DASH-style eating plan for people with diabetes led to more time with blood glucose in the recommended range.

Having lived in southwest Louisiana my entire life, I feel like know good food. But I also know the ailments that can come along with eating a traditional southern “fried” diet. Can we say high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, etc? Louisiana is one of the worst states when it comes to health outcomes. My goal is to change that, one person at a time. I’ve been a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist since 2007, and recently started a private practice to reach more people about improving their health and wellness. I’ve seen firsthand the damage a poor diet can cause on one’s health. That doesn’t have to be you. Chronic disease can often be prevented by improving your diet. Good health can often be maintained by a healthy diet and lifestyle. Just as you see your other healthcare professionals for yearly physicals, eye exams, and dental checkups, you also need to visit a dietitian yearly or more often. Dietitians are not just for those wanting to lose weight, although we can definitely help you with that. We are also not only for the wealthy or really sick person. Dietitians are a vital part of your healthcare team, that you may be missing out on.
Making changes to your lifestyle can be hard, but it is possible and necessary. I promise you don’t have to sacrifice taste or only eat boring salads. My approach to health is holistic as nutrition, although important, is only once piece of the puzzle. Your health is impacted by your spiritual and mental well-being, physical environment, activity and body movements, and relationships. I work with you to customize a healthy nutrition prescription based on your history, preferences, and goals. What matters to you? How can I support you in reaching your optimal wellness?
