I know I’m not the only new momma who found herself crying in the kitchen while my husband was at work. A baby in one arm and Hakka on your b**b. Filled with overwhelm, surging hormones and searching for an easy meal to pacify the ravenous breastfeeding hunger.
I had 10 days of in-home support from my husband and family. Ten. 1-0. After that, it was just Camden and I. This shouldn’t be the norm.
As a country, we are given so much support for pregnancy. But, as soon as baby is earth-side, our education as a new mother stops. We step into this roll with no idea what to expect. Or, understanding of the very drastic changes our bodies and brain’s go through.
I knew nourishing my newly post partum body was crucial. I tried my best to prepare as much as I could while I was pregnant. I researched Ayurvedic principles and recipes. I did what I could with the little knowledge I had.
My pregnancy, birth and postpartum journey has led me to a space I would have NEVER placed myself in. It opened my eyes to seeing where, as a nation, we are lacking for new families. It has lit a fire under me to help fill those gaps.
I pray my new love for birth-work starts to open the eyes of others as well. I’m not sure where this will lead or the services I will provide. But, I can feel, in the depths of my soul, this is what I’ve been called to do.
Momma’s! What was your experience post partum? Did you feel like you were nourished while on maternity leave? What do you feel was lacking? How I can help support new moms during these fragile first weeks?
