😴 Not getting enough sleep raises the risk of obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and depression.

Most adults need at least 7 hours of sleep each night. Keep a consistent sleep schedule and make your bedroom dark and quiet to improve rest.

If you’re still tired during the day, talk to your provider about possible sleep apnea. Symptoms can include loud snoring or gasping during sleep. Treatment may include weight loss or a CPAP device to keep airways open.

Carrying extra weight—especially around the waist—raises the risk of heart disease and related conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes.

A BMI of 25+ is considered overweight and linked to higher heart risk. Waist size matters too: risk increases above 40 inches for men and 35 inches for women.

The good news: even modest weight loss (3–5%) can lower blood sugar, triglycerides, and diabetes risk—and further weight loss can improve blood pressure and cholesterol.

🐟 🥦 A heart-healthy diet supports blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar control.

Focus on fruits, vegetables, beans, lean proteins, fish, low-fat dairy, whole grains, and healthy fats like olive oil and avocado. Plans like the Mediterranean or DASH diets are great options.

Limit sodium, added sugars, refined carbs, alcohol, processed foods, and unhealthy fats (saturated and trans fats).

One of the best things you can do for your heart is quit smoking or using tobacco—and avoid secondhand smoke. To***co chemicals damage your heart and blood vessels, lower oxygen levels, and force your heart to work harder.

The good news: your heart starts healing quickly. Risk of heart disease begins to drop within a day of quitting, and after one year, it’s cut nearly in half. No matter how long you’ve smoked, quitting now brings immediate benefits.
