Trigger Point vs. Knot — What’s the difference? 🤷♀️
Most people call any tight spot a “knot,” but not all knots behave the same.
Knot:
A general area of muscle tension. Feels tight or ropey, may be tender, usually stays in one place.
Trigger Point:
A more specific, hyper-irritable spot within a tight muscle band. Pressing it can create referred pain—meaning it hurts somewhere else too (like headaches, arm pain, low-back ache, etc.).
Quick tip: All trigger points are knots… but not all knots are trigger points.
