We want to provide you with information regarding the situation that occurred today at Barbe High School. A call was made to the front office of the school alleging that a student had a gun on campus. In response, school administration placed the school under a precautionary lockdown and notified the School Resource Officers. As the lockdown occurred, a school employee also utilized our emergency alert system, Rave. While the use of it was precautionary today, the Rave system notifies multiple area law enforcement agencies including the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, Lake Charles Police Department, and Louisiana State Police. The response seen on campus today was the result of our emergency alert system working as it should, and we are grateful to our law enforcement partners for responding appropriately. Law enforcement agencies checked every building on campus and gave school and district personnel the all-clear for normal activities to resume. No threat or weapon was ever located on Barbe High School's campus.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of parents and guardians both on and off campus during this event. Our safety procedures, measures, and protocols worked as intended today. We understand these situations can be very concerning to everyone involved, and our priority will always be the safety of students, faculty, and staff.
We want to thank every law enforcement agency that assisted in today's incident, and we want to commend Barbe High Schoolβs administration and staff for handling this calmly and thoroughly. We would also like to thank the staff at S.J. Welsh Middle School for accommodating some Barbe High School students who were on their way back to Barbe following off-campus classes when this occurred. Situations like this require the cooperation of everyone, and that is what happened today. We appreciate our staff, our parents, and the community today and always.
