Mabel Quiette Young Loch, age 100 of Lake City, died peacefully on February 23, 2026, in Gainesville, Florida. She was born September 29, 1925, in Shamrock, Florida to William Thomas Quiette and Pearl Futch. She graduated from high school in Dixie County, and in 1944 married David G. Young Jr. Together they were blessed with eleven children. In 1960, Mabel moved with her family to Lake City, Florida and they became faithful members of Epiphany Catholic Church. She was a bookkeeper and worked at Briscoe’s Office Supply in Lake City and Columbia County Council on Aging until her husband’s death in 1987. She later married John Loch in 1994, enjoying eleven years of fishing, camping, and family get togethers. A devoted mother, she instilled in her children a love for God and for each other.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son: Lawrence Michael Young, and nine siblings. She is survived by her children: David G. (Martha) Young III of Easley, NC, Mary (Dave) Humphrey of Rockledge, FL, Sarah (Michael) Pearson of Tallahassee, FL, Margaret (Roger) Lizotte, Therese (Richey DePoyster) Young, Joan (Chuck) Sage, Angela (Doug) Smith, Paul Young, Stephen (Mae) Young, Stanley (Tammy) Young and stepchildren: Michael Loch, Carol Poarch, and Heather Neville, all of Lake City. Many beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and one sister-in-law also survive.

Mass and funeral services will be held 11:00am, Friday, March 6, 2026, at Epiphany Catholic Church with Father Bob Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City. Mrs. Loch’s family will receive friends from 5-6:00pm, Thursday, March 5, 2026, in the chapel of Guerry Forbes Funeral Home of Lake City, 2569 SW Main Blvd., Lake City, Florida. Mrs. Doris Marie Morton, a lifelong Lake City resident, passed away Monday, February 23, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born in Lake City and was a graduate of Columbia High School in 1952. Mrs. Morton spent part of her career as a medical secretary at Division Hospital of Lake City before it closed and then at the Department of Children and Families. She was devoted to her family and her dog, Buddy.

She is survived by her son: Kevin (Suzanne) Morton of Lake City; son-in-law: Mark Rhoden of Lake City; grandchildren: Scott (Lindsey) Morton, Lindsey (George) Pridgeon, Mandy (Brad Federico) Rhoden, and Corey Rhoden; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather: Agnes and Milton Wheeler, her husband: Kenneth A. Morton; and daughter: Debi Rhoden.

A graveside service will be held 10:30am, Friday, February 27, 2026, at Corinth Methodist Cemetery, 509 NW Corinth Drive, Lake City, Florida 32055 with Chaplain Brian Shearer officiating. Guerry Forbes Funeral Home of Lake City is honored to serve the Morton family.

Dennis Millard “Mitch” Collins, 63 of Lake City and formerly of Baker County, passed from this life after a brief illness on Thursday, February 12, 2026. Mitch was the son of James “JL” and Virginia Roberts Collins, born in Jacksonville on March 5, 1962. He would go on to work for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), dedicating nearly forty years of his life to service there.

He married the love of his life, the former Cheryl Rosier of Lake City, and together they enjoyed nearly thirty one years of marriage and memories. Mitch enjoyed the outdoors, spending time riding ATV’s and UTV’s. He also enjoyed fishing in his younger years and was an avid Gator fan. His greatest joy, was being a “Papa”.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved daughter, Emily Collins.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Collins of Lake City; son, Chadwick (April) Collins, Sr. of Lake City; grandchildren, Addison, Owyn, and Chadwick, Jr.; brother, Roy (Tracy) Collins of St. Augustine; nieces, Kaleigh and Natalie; father in law, Bud Rosier of Lake City; mother in law, Phyllis Rosier of Starke; as well as extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Guerry Forbes Funeral Home of Lake City. Visitation will take place at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memorial Cemetery, Lake City.

Cynthia Shipp Bringman, a lifelong Lake City resident, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the age of 60. Mrs. Bringman was a homemaker and a member of the Eastside Baptist Church. Mrs. Bringman had a heart for others. She loved her friends, talking with and doting on them, always making them feel loved and important. She especially enjoyed spending time with her son, Justin, and her granddaughter, Oakland. As a cancer survivor, Mrs. Bringman supported cancer research, and the local autism community was also close to her heart. She was an avid sports fan who loved WWE pro wrestling, Florida Gator Football and Jacksonville Jaguar Football; hence her favorite color was teal. Mrs. Bringman held a special place in her heart for animals, especially cats. She will be missed by all who know and love her.

She is survived by her son: Justin Bringman of High Springs; daughter: Nicole Bringman of Lake City; granddaughter: Oakland of Lakeland; mother: Joyce Skinner; brother: William Segrest; and sister: Mary (James) Bennett all of Lake City. She was preceded in death by her father: Joseph E. Shipp and her husband: Kevin Ray Bringman.

Augustus "Gus" Fred Chandler, 94, of Lake City, FL, passed away on February 3, 2026. Gus was born on July 9, 1931 in Pavo, GA to Fred Mathias & Elodie McCann Chandler. His parents moved to a small area of Miami, FL called Ojus shortly after his birth. He graduated from Miami Edison High School in 1949. He worked for McTyre Trucking prior to entering the military. Gus served four years [1950-1954/Korean War] in the US Navy as a mechanic aviator. On September 18, 1954, he married Annie Laura [Deloach] and resided in Ft. Lauderdale, FL until 1971. Gus had a tremendous work ethic and drive like riding a bicycle delivering newspapers in the neighborhood. He worked on the farms of Homestead, FL, harvesting tomatoes and cucumbers; he carried his saltshaker in his back pocket to season the vegetables he would eat for his lunch. When he began driving, he hauled concrete block from Miami to Okeechobee; and drove for a prominent dairy company delivering milk from home to home. He finally found his expertise in crane mechanics and operation and became a Crane Operator for Local 675 in south Florida. He made a career in building the high rises of the southern east coast for the most of 30 years on tower cranes. As he stepped down from the tower crane and entered retirement years, Gus worked for Sims Crane Service as a consultant, eight years. In 1971, he moved Laura and four children to Lake City, FL [Ellisville] to a farm. Gus had cattle, hay field, corn and a vegetable garden [and the saltshaker]. He loved and valued family and friends; he had a great time at family gatherings and liked being in charge of the BBQ grill. He loved to fish in his younger years usually choosing Lake Okeechobee. Then, in retirement, he turned to riding a motorcycle; at the age of 71 he bought a motorcycle and then another. Gus rode the local roads and in the mountains of Tennessee and N. Carolina until 90 years young, usually with his son, Harmon. Gus was in church most of his life with his parents and raising his own family. He was of the Baptist faith and a current member of Elim Baptist Church of Ft. White. He had a great sense of humor and used it often either for us or against us! So, we had to be ready to be involved or run. Gus is survived by his four children: Harmon A. Chandler [Teresa]; Elaine Badgerow [Darryl]; LoriAnn Barnes [Warren]; Lisa Marie Edenfield [Randall]. His grandchildren: Jason [Lynn] Chandler of Mayo, FL; Scott [Ashley] Chandler of Wellborn, FL; Jessica [Jason] Tison of Madison, FL; Mary [Nic] Nyssen of Gainesville, FL; David Badgerow of Jacksonville, FL; Jennifer Barnes of Denver, Colorado; Laura [Brayden] Yingling of Sneads Ferry, NC; Thomas Barnes of Bell, FL; Lindsay [Joshua] Quattrone of Raeford, NC; Amanda [Kyle] Wardwell of Slidell, LA; Joshua [Erika Raye] Edenfield of Lake City. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Peggy Sanders of Monticello, FL & Sandra Gagne of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Gus has a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his wife of 37 years, Annie Laura [Deloach] Chandler; sister, Mabel Pirkle of Anniston, AL & brother, Clyde M. Chandler of Tallahassee, FL; a daughter-in-law, Karen Tanner Chandler of Obrien, FL. A celebration of life is planned for 11:00am, Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Elim Baptist Church, 3435 SW Elim Baptist Church Road, Ft White, FL. Interment follows the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Mr. Fred Nathaniel Vining Jr., a lifelong resident of Lake City, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026. Mr. Vining was born in Lake City to the late Fred N. and Delma Box Vining Sr. and was a 1969 graduate of Columbia High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Later, Mr. Vining was employed by the Florida Department of Transportation for thirty years until the time of his retirement. He loved deer and turkey hunting and riding his tractor. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his grandchildren who were his pride and joy.

Mr. Vining is survived by his daughters: Staci (Glen) Musgrove of Lake City and Christa (Paul) Heinmuller of Brunswick; grandchildren: Alyssa, Noah, Gloree, Maverick, and Eastyn; and sisters: Freda Flamm and Pat (Mike) Hudson all of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his wife: Gloria Jean Bailey Vining; his parents; and sisters: Shirlene Fletcher and Virginia Miles.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held 2:00pm, Thursday, February 5, 2026, at The Orchard at SouthRidge Community Church, 162 SW Ridge St., Lake City, FL 32024 with Pastors Eddie Blalock and Robert Bradow officiating. Interment will follow the service at Philippi Baptist Church Cemetery, 144 County Hwy 18, Lake City, FL 32024.

Captain Richard Lloyd Carlson, age 73, of Lake City and formerly of Tavernier, Florida, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at home and surrounded by love.

Originally from Miami, he spent most of his life there and was an owner of Airtech Air Conditioning. He was a member of Pipefitters Union Local 725 and the Mechanical Contractors Association for many years. An avid fisherman, one of the things he was most proud of was obtaining his captain’s license. He also enjoyed barbequing and even entered a few competitions. He will be remembered as having an infectious, quick-witted, larger-than-life personality.

He is survived by his wife of forty years: Lynne Carlson of Lake City; daughters: Theresa (Doctor Diogenes) Duarte of Lake City and Cariann (Jason) Shaw of Fernandina Beach; grandchildren: Jack, Eliana, and Natalia Duarte and Jason, Ruby, and Gavin Shaw; brother: Ronald (Gay Lynne) Carlson of Miami; and sister: Barbara (Michael) Merkel of Alabama. Mr. Carlson was preceded in death by his parents: Harold Theodore and Betty Joyce Britton Carlson.

Justin Scott Roberts, 39, of Lake City, Florida, passed away on January 9, 2026. Justin was born on November 21, 1986, in Lake City, Florida, and was the son of Randal Clay Roberts and Debra Jean Rushing. He lived a life marked by dedication to his family and those closest to him. Shortly after graduating high school, Justin enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served with the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Benning, Georgia. During his service, he was deployed to Iraq from 2007 to 2008. His military service was a source of pride and honor throughout his life. Justin is survived by his partner, Deven Ashley LiDiestri of Opelika, Alabama, and his children, Kollyns Kate Roberts, Justin Ryder Roberts, Myla Jewell Roberts, Faith Daya Roberts, Jayzen Kensie Roberts, Sadie Noelle Roberts and Kyzleigh Renee Roberts. He is also survived by his parents, Randal Clay Roberts and Debra Jean Rushing; stepparents, Maria Louise Roberts and Ralph Wesley Rushing; and siblings, Christopher Clay Roberts and Jennifer Lynn Harrington. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Shirley Jean Munoz and Anita Mary Scott. Justin Scott Roberts will be forever missed and loved.
