Black History is more than a moment — it’s a foundation. It’s legacy. It’s ownership.
Standing in the Historic Greater Saint James AME Church, this photo represents generations of Black excellence rooted right here in Lake City. When a picture speaks, it tells a story of vision, resilience, and purpose.
✨ Lassie Green — a trailblazing Black business owner whose vision and commitment laid the groundwork for what Green-Cooper-Gaskin Funeral Home represents in our community today.
✨ Dr. Rev. Robert B. Cooper, Sr., a Lake City native — the first Black man to work at Sears in Florence, SC, a barrier-breaker whose journey led to the continuation of legacy at Green-Cooper-Gaskin Funeral Home.
✨ Teresa Fulmore — a dedicated leader, nonprofit business owner, and valued staff member at Green’s, carrying the mission forward through service, compassion, and community impact.
This is what Black History looks like:
✔️ Building when doors weren’t open
✔️ Owning what we once could only work for
✔️ Passing the baton with purpose
✔️ Serving our people with dignity and care
We honor the foundation that was built, the legacy that endures, and the future that continues to grow because of Black vision, Black leadership, and Black ownership.
