LORENE PATTON

Marjorie Lorene Hollingsworth Patton of Windsor, Florida passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025 with her family by her side. She recently shared her 96th birthday with her many loved ones in March.

Lorene was born in Gainesville, Florida on March 3, 1929, at the beginning of the Great Depression, to Perry James Hollingsworth and Fay Myrtle Kite Hollingsworth. Her father worked in logging camps, so the family lived in many places throughout Florida during her upbringing; eventually settling in Windsor, Florida. Lorene attended Gainesville High School where she met the great love of her life, William Joseph Merrel Patton.

Lorene and Merrel were married on May 5, 1946 at the ages of 17 and 20. They lived in Gainesville, Florida and later settled in Windsor, Florida where they raised five children and watched their grandchildren grow. They shared 72 years of marriage until Merrel’s passing in 2018.

Lorene’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a stay at home mom fiercely dedicated to her children’s happiness, success and education. With little, she created much; she made a home of unconditional love where her children grew and flourished. She shared that same unwavering love with her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Later in life, Lorene began working outside the home to provide the best education available for her children. She worked in retail and then at Shands Hospital, University of Florida Physicians. True to her spirit, she was a great advocate for patients, assisting them with their insurance benefits and ensuring their needs were met. She retired at age 67.

Lorene was a master seamstress and shared this talent with her family; sewing one of a kind wedding dresses, tuxedos, and clothing of all kinds. As a young mother with limited resources, she spent her time sewing clothing for children in the community who were otherwise without. She was extremely well-read and rarely seen without her nose in a book during her free time. She loved spending time with friends and family, especially frequent family gatherings, travel and camping trips. Above all, her focus was on others; making sure everyone was happy, well-fed and loved.

Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph Merrel Patton; her parents, Perry James Hollingsworth and Fay Myrtle Kite Hollingsworth; her sisters, Margaret Hollingsworth, Betty Pons, Joann Parker and Helen Sakalarios and her son-in-law, Marion Eugene O'Quinn. She is survived by her children: Sharon O'Quinn (Gene), Garron Patton (Linda), Andra Higgins (Ed), Joel Patton (Tina) and Kevin Patton (Tina); her grandchildren: Perry O'Quinn (Heather), Amy Whitworth (Daryl), Cale O'Quinn (Trang), Melissa Steele Eyster (Jay), Lorrinda Patton Aycock (Wes), Garra Patton (Mike), Quint Higgins (Noveline), Brad Higgins (Diana), Lindsey Patton Walker (Dave), Brandon Patton (Marissa), Rita Smith, David Paul Patton, Thomas Patton (Ciera) and Luke Patton; fifteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Lorene will be greatly missed and remembered fondly for her strong will, unwavering principles, kind heart and devotion to her family. She treated others with kindness and dignity and was loved by all who were fortunate enough to stand in her light. She leaves a great legacy for us in the strength of character and unconditional devotion that she passed on through many generations.

Please join us for a graveside service at 11:00 am on Friday, April 25th at Evergreen Cemetery, 401 SE 21st Avenue, Gainesville, Florida. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends from 12:00 - 4:00pm at Drury Inn & Suites, 4000 SW 40th Blvd., Gainesville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Arrangements have been trusted to ICS Cremation & Funeral Home located at 357 NW Wilks Lane, Lake City, FL 32055. 1-386-752-3436.

In Loving Memory of Eleanor Marion Williams
Sunrise: February 26, 1931; Sunset: March 19, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Marion Williams, 94. Ms. Williams died peacefully in her sleep holding her daughter’s hand the morning of March 19, 2025, in Tallahassee, Florida, after a long and valiant fight against breast cancer.
Ms. Williams was born as one of ten children to Joseph Minor and Rathemese Rose Honore’ on February 26, 1931, in New Orleans, Louisiana. One of her main livelihoods was as a seamstress. She worked in a Levi’s factory for many years across the street from Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where she was a long-time parishioner. As an adult, she lived in Los Angeles, California with one of her sisters for almost two decades. She moved to Tallahassee, Florida to be with her only child in 1995.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughter Leslie Baham Inniss (J.E. Denman) of Tallahassee, Florida, granddaughter Tasha Rose Inniss of Atlanta, Georgia, grandson Enos Charles Inniss (L.J. Inniss) of Houston, Texas, and a host of relatives in and around New Orleans, Louisiana.
Crocheting and gardening were the hobbies Ms. Eleanor, as many liked to call her, enjoyed the most. Prior to being diagnosed with cancer, you could find her working in her garden, in which she took great pride. She crocheted and gifted numerous shawls as well as blankets for both baby and adult-lap coverlets to family, friends, and sick individuals. Ms. Williams also loved volunteering at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital as a member of their Auxiliary. She has numerous pins as evidence of her 19 years of continuous service. She was so humbled that the hospital included her picture honoring the Auxiliary on one of their walls.
Ms. Williams was known for her kind heart, abiding faith, and charitable nature. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Ms. Williams was definitely one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew and loved her!
Ms. Williams had a deep and profound relationship with God. A devout Catholic, she tuned into EWTN faithfully every morning and virtually attended mass. She began each day praying the rosary and other devotional prayers. A long-term donor to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Ms. Williams’ homegoing service and funeral mass will be held on April 12, 2025, at the church (653 Miccosukee Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32308-4965), beginning at 2 pm. Please wear a touch of lavender since purple was Ms. Eleanor’s favorite color.
Ms. Williams was a walking testimony of her faith because she survived with Stage IV (metastatic) breast cancer for five years. The family is indebted to her long-time oncologist, Dr. Jorge Perez de Armas, and his nurse, Lisa. A special thanks to Joan E. Denman for her caretaking during the five years of Ms. Williams’ cancer fight.
The family kindly requests that In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in Ms. Eleanor Williams’ memory.

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord henceforth.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”- Revelation 14:13 (Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition)

04/04/2025

James Andrew Petty Jr. was born on November 3, 1954 in China Lake, CA to James Andrew Petty and Alice Ellen (Sampson) Petty. He passed away on March 30, 2025 in Lake City, Florida. He is survived by his daughters Mary Alice Petty and Susan Jean Petty. He is preceded in death by both his mother Alice and father Jim.

He grew up a Navy brat, but the family settled down in Florida’s Space Coast in his teen years, and he thrived in the easygoing beach vibe of it all, a cool surfer dude who could always make his friends laugh. Always creative and talented with his hands, he made his own surfboards for himself and his friends which were aptly coined the “Petty Jetty Smashers.” He graduated from Satellite High in 1973.

He spent 4 years in what he always called “Jimmy Carter’s Navy” where he was a firefighter, shipfitter, and welder, and where he made lifelong friendships and smoked a lot of re**er (in his own words). On a “Report of Enlisted Performance Evaluation” from August 1977, it reports that after being assigned to the scullery in the enlisted dining facility, Jim was selected “Mess Man of the Month” for getting along well with his superiors and peers alike.

Jim had a natural talent for making, eating, and sharing good food. Growing up the eldest son of Alice, the best southern home cook there possibly ever was, it was only natural that he gravitated toward a culinary career after his honorable discharge from the Navy. He apprenticed under local Chef Mickey Miyamoto in Melbourne, FL, who helped hone and direct his raw natural talent, and foster and nurture his love of cooking and ambitions to be a chef.

It was here he met his (ex) wife of 22 years, Nancy, with whom he raised his two daughters, Mary and Susie. The love story of Jim and Nancy was one of beauty and tragedy, listen to Eric Clapton’s album “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs” if you want the gist of the sad and beautiful trajectory of that relationship, but just know that at the end they both separately found peace, and loved their daughters very much.

After his eldest daughter Mary was born in Rockledge Florida in 1987, and after training with Chef Mickey Miyamoto inspired his passion to become a Chef, Jim traveled with his young family to Poughkeepsie, NY to train at the esteemed Culinary Institute of America. His youngest daughter Susan was born there, and he graduated from the Culinary Institute in 1989. Though he was a dedicated student and graduated with honors, his friendly demeanor and party vibe earned him the nickname “Cool Breeze” from his buddies at the CIA, who even embroidered it for him on his chef coat.

Jim worked in many restaurants up and down the east coast, but his daughters have fondest memories of the rockin Elvis themed barbecue joint Old Glory All American Barbecue in Georgetown in Washington DC. World famous barbecue by day and a blues club by night, Jim’s spirited zest for life and culinary prowess earned him accolades and many satisfied diners, and a really cool article in Southern Living Magazine to boot.
Jim moved back down to Florida in the late 90s to follow the natural trajectory of the dreaded but inevitable restaurant industry to real estate pipeline, where he was a good realtor in a sh*tty economy. Unfortunately, 2008 got the best of him, but that didn’t stop him from pivoting and graduating with honors from Wyotech, a motorcycle tech school, and from pursuing an online degree in what he referred to as “Online TV Preacher School.” Jim loved the Lord and was a dedicated and studious reader of the bible and really exemplified the best qualities of kindness, compassion, and love that he learned from the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Jim was charming, funny, and so full of life, even in his later years as his health declined. He loved to listen to music, and he loved to share his passion for music with anyone who would sit and listen to a song with him. He loved to make and share food with his loved ones, for him it was a form of communion, a way to connect with people on a soul level. He could light up a room with his laughter, he loved hard and was fiercely proud of his daughters. He was a lover of animals, cats and dogs were naturally drawn to him because they could sense the kindness and kinship he felt toward them. His beloved deceased dogs (Levon aka Totally Gnarly to the Max for Sure, Beardog, PJ, La Femme Nikita aka Nikki the Slasher, and Sampson the Bone Crusher aka Sammy) and cats (Captain Hornblower and Muad D’ib) are surely delighted to see him in heaven.

Jim was the best father there ever was. He believed his daughters could do anything they set their minds to and always encouraged their aspirations. They miss him so much.

Per Jim’s wishes, there is not going to be a formal service, but Jim’s daughters are going to take a trip to the beach where he and they grew up and honor their father there by going to some of his favorite places and thinking of all the good times, and in the meantime, anyone who would like to honor his memory, please make and eat some good food with your loved ones, listen to some good rock and roll and blues, and (if you partake) light up a big fat doobie.
