🦶 Foot Care Tips for People with Diabetes 🦶
Proper foot care is essential for preventing complications related to diabetes. Follow these tips to keep your feet healthy and safe.
1. Check Your Feet Daily
Look for cuts, blisters, scratches, or redness. Use a long-handled mirror or place a mirror on the floor to see the bottoms of your feet. Do not forget between your toes.
2. Keep Feet Clean and Moisturized
Wash your feet every day and dry carefully, especially between toes. Apply a moisturizer to prevent dry skin but never between toes because this can cause fungal infections.
3. Wear Proper Shoes and Socks
Always wear well-fitted comfortable shoes. Avoid narrow pointed-toe or high-heeled shoes. Wear clean socks. Moisture-wicking or diabetic socks are recommended. Do not go barefoot even at home or on the beach.
4. Trim Nails Safely
Cut toenails straight across to prevent ingrown nails. Inspect your shoes for sharp objects, tears, or rough spots that could injure your feet.
