A stroke may have changed Mr. Miller’s path, but it didn’t stop his progress. From day one, he showed determination and heart, putting in the hard work required to rebuild strength, balance, and confidence. The journey wasn’t easy, but he showed up every day ready to move forward.

With dedicated therapy and supportive nursing care, he made steady progress and achieved remarkable milestones along the way. Today, he’s walking out stronger, more independent, and ready for the next chapter.

We’re proud of the resilience he’s shown and grateful to have been part of his recovery journey.

If you or someone you know appears to be having a heart attack or stroke, call 911 immediately.

Heart attack symptoms can include chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, pain in the arms, back, neck, jaw, or stomach, nausea, cold sweats, or an irregular heartbeat. Stroke symptoms include face drooping, arm weakness, trouble speaking or walking, confusion, or sudden severe headache.

Recognizing these signs quickly and calling 911 allows paramedics to start treatment on the scene, providing the greatest chance of timely, life-saving treatment.

Autoimmune diseases, where the immune system attacks the body’s own organs, can increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular problems. Common conditions include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, systemic sclerosis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, and asthma.

According to the American Heart Association, along with medications prescribed by doctors, lifestyle choices can help support heart health and overall well-being. Consider eating a heart-healthy, anti-inflammatory diet and practice low-impact exercises like swimming or yoga. Try to maintain a healthy weight and incorporate stress management techniques like meditation into your regular routine. Most importantly, if you smoke, stop.

Talk with your doctor about the best ways to protect your heart while managing autoimmune disease.

According to the American Heart Association, if you’ve had a heart attack, stroke, or heart-related surgery, it’s essential to let your dentist know.

Be sure to share your full heart-health history, including conditions, surgeries, and medications. Some dental anesthetics contain epinephrine, which can affect heart rate and blood pressure. Blood thinners may increase bleeding risk during procedures, so your dentist may adjust your care.

Ask whether antibiotics are needed before procedures. And after a stroke, discuss adaptive tools or techniques to make brushing and flossing easier.

Having these conversations ensures that your dentist can provide care that’s safe, effective, and tailored to your specific needs.

Inflammation is our body’s response to injury. But when it comes to heart health, the main concern is chronic, low-grade systemic inflammation. This is a persistent, mild immune response where the body’s defenses stay activated without a clear infection. It’s linked to a higher risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart failure.

Chronic inflammation is often driven by lifestyle factors, but simple, everyday choices can help protect your heart:

• Eat a heart-healthy diet with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, and healthy oils.
• Limit processed foods.
• Be physically active. Any movement is better than none.
• Get 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night.
• Manage stress with meditation, yoga, or deep breathing.
• Avoid smoking.
• Keep up with preventative medical care.
• Protect yourself from infections like the flu.
