Postpartum Pointer 💛

Knowing what postpartum anxiety is can help new moms recognize when worry becomes more than the typical stress of parenthood.

Postpartum anxiety is a condition that causes intense, ongoing fear or worry after having a baby. These thoughts can feel overwhelming, difficult to control, and may interfere with daily life.

Common signs can include:
• Racing thoughts or constant “what if” worries
• Feeling on edge or unable to relax
• Trouble sleeping, even when baby is asleep
• Panic attacks or physical symptoms like nausea or a racing heart
• Repeatedly checking on your baby
• Avoiding certain places or situations out of fear

Postpartum anxiety can begin during pregnancy, shortly after birth, or even months later. It’s more common than many realize, affecting about 1 in 5 women.

Recognizing the signs is important because support and treatment are available. 💚 https://www.stewartmemorial.org/services/perinatalmentalhealth/

Ways to Support Your Mental Health Postpartum 💛

Having a simple routine throughout the week can help create structure, motivation, and little things to look forward to during the postpartum season.

Move Monday 🚶‍♀️🛒
Set a schedule for the week, plan meals, grocery shop, and get movement in for the day. Even a short walk outside or stretching at home can help boost your mood.

Treat Tuesday ☕🍫
Get out and give yourself something to look forward to. It can be anything from a coffee run to your favorite candy bar. Invite someone along if you can!

Wellness Wednesday 🌿👩‍👧
Focus on connection and getting out of the house. Visit friends or family, go to the library or park, or meet up with another mom for some social time.

Tidy Thursday 🧺✨
Stay home and get caught up on laundry or light cleaning. A calmer space can help create a calmer mind, but remember it does not have to be perfect.

Fun Friday 🎉🚗
Do whatever feels fun that day! Stay in pajamas all day, go shopping, take a drive, watch movies, or simply do something that makes you smile.

Postpartum life can feel overwhelming sometimes, but small routines and simple goals can help you feel more grounded while adjusting to this new season of life 💕

Postpartum Pointer 💛

Many moms experience the “baby blues” after delivery. This can include mood swings, crying spells, feeling overwhelmed, anxiety, or trouble sleeping. These feelings usually start within the first few days after birth and are very common.

The good news is that baby blues are temporary and typically go away within 1 to 2 weeks as your body adjusts and hormones begin to balance out.

It is important to know the difference. If those feelings:
• Last longer than two weeks
• Start to feel more intense
• Make it hard to care for yourself or your baby

It could be postpartum depression, and it is okay to ask for help.

You are not expected to do this alone. If something does not feel right, reach out to your provider. Support is always here 🤍 https://www.stewartmemorial.org/services/perinatalmentalhealth/
