Silver Sobriety

Silver Sobriety At Silver Sobriety, we provide older adults with affordable recovery services for alcohol and drug addiction.

Please donate to support our Seniors in our community and Silver Sobriety’s outreach. Why is Silver Sobriety better for seniors than existing recovery programs? We minimize barriers by focusing on the unique needs of seniors.
• Age Specific Care: We only serve people ages 50 and older. Older adults will connect with their peers and work on issues unique to their age group. This approach increases

the likelihood of success.
• The Right Pace: Our program moves at a pace that is fitting for older adults.
• The Right Length: Research shows that longer programs lead to better outcomes. We provide a continuum of care across providers, health plans, medical professionals and counties that provides support from an acute care model to continuing care.
• Flexible: Because we are a non-clinical model, our program is not dictated by insurance companies and unnecessary medical over-regulation. This allows us to be client-centered and flexible.
• Reachable: Transportation will be provided at no cost to those within a 15 mile radius of Stillwater, MN.
• Affordable: Out of pocket costs for the Silver Sobriety program is $4,500
• Accessible: We strive to remove barriers to recovery and never turn anyone away based on ability to pay. We believe that no matter your age, you can overcome substance abuse with the right support and resources.

Did you know that alcohol and drug addiction can affect anyone — including adults 50 and older?

Many people assume Substance Use Disorder is a "younger person's problem." But research shows that older adults face unique challenges: they're more likely to drink at home, live alone, and have their struggles go unnoticed.

At Silver Sobriety, we were built specifically for adults 50+. Our nonresidential, 12-Step-based recovery program helps seniors rebuild their lives — affordably, with community, and without judgment.

You don't have to wait until you "hit bottom." Help is available right now.

Are you still using the word "alcoholic"? Harvard researchers say the term carries decades of stigma that can actually get in the way of healing. A powerful read for anyone navigating sobriety — or supporting someone who is. 🔗

The term conjures outdated stereotypes about an illness that afflicts 28 million Americans, says psychologist.

Did you know that in 2016, of the 350 treatment centers in Minnesota, 140 programs were specific to adolescents, and only TWO were geared toward seniors? That's the gap Silver Sobriety was founded to fill. Older adults have unique challenges — grief, loneliness, chronic pain, cognitive changes — that don't fit neatly into programs designed for younger people. We believe you deserve support that actually understands where you are in life. ❓ Have questions about our program? Check out our full FAQ. 👉 silversobriety.org/faqs

🚨 New research is challenging one of the most common beliefs in our community.

A major new analysis of 54 clinical trials — spanning 45 years of research — found NO evidence that ma*****na effectively treats anxiety, depression, or PTSD. These are the top three reasons people say they use it.

For many of us, cannabis felt like a solution. A way to quiet the noise, take the edge off, or just get through the day.

But what if it was actually standing in the way of real healing?

We'd love to hear from you 👇 Your story could be exactly what someone else needs to hear today.

Changes in behavior can be subtle—but recognizing the signs of addiction is an important first step toward support and recovery.

Common signs may include increased tolerance, withdrawal symptoms, difficulty controlling use, drinking or using substances to cope with stress or depression, and becoming more isolated or withdrawn. Declining self-care, hiding substance use, or experiencing social, financial, or health consequences can also be indicators that help may be needed.

Substance use disorder can affect adults at any age, including those over 50—even individuals who have never struggled before. Awareness creates the opportunity for early intervention and meaningful change.

Silver Sobriety provides recovery support designed specifically for older adults, offering education, structure, and accessible pathways forward.
