Check Your Labels - Your Hormones Will Thank You.

What you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body. And some ingredients in everyday skincare may be messing with your hormone balance without you even knowing.

Here are 3 common culprits to watch for:
1️⃣ Parabens – Often found in lotions + makeup. Can mimic estrogen.
2️⃣ Phthalates – Usually hidden in “fragrance.” Linked to hormone disruption + fertility issues.
3️⃣ Oxybenzone – Found in chemical sunscreens. A known endocrine disruptor.

No need to panic, just time to get curious.

At my upcoming workshop, I’ll show you how to spot these toxins and easily swap for safer options (no overwhelm, I promise!)

Love is in the air this month and it has us all giving some extra special attention to our significant others.

Whether you have been with your hunny for 20+ years or just getting started on your journey as a couple here are a few ways to add some extra spice in the bedroom.

👀Explore fantasies & fetishes
-Have you had this conversation with your partner? Opening up and getting to know truly what turns each other on could bring your relationship to a whole new level.

💕Role play on a date
-Meet each other up on a date and either pretend to be on a first date or pretend to be different characters over a meal and maybe a few glasses of wine.

✈️Plan a couples retreat/Change your location
-If you are feeling like you don’t have much to talk about with your significant other, try planning a couples retreat or eating at a new restaurant. Bonding over new experiences will bring you closer as a couple and give you more interesting topics of conversation.

🎵Ambiance is key
-Music: Throw on some of your favorite sexy songs/playlists and get to dancing.
-Sexy scenes: If both parties are comfortable, pick out a movie to watch together *wink wink*
-Set up: some candles, chocolates, rose petals, bubble bath, etc.
-Food - wine and dine baby - bonus points if you include some aphrodisiacs

What are some ways you keep the spark alive?

Do you have estrogen dominance?

Estrogen dominance can show up in both physical and mental symptoms. From a physical perspective this could look like:

-Weight gain
-Headaches
-Tender breasts/lumps in breasts
-Irregular/heavier periods
-Hair loss
-PMS: bloating, headaches, acne, breast tenderness

It’s important to remember that these symptoms might be due to another underlying cause. The important thing to remember is that this doesn’t have to be your normal. If it is due to estrogen dominance, it’s time to take some action to get your hormones optimized and get you feeling energized and vibrant.

SUGAR + HORMONES = 👎

Refined sugars have been linked to a number of health issues from metabolic disorders like diabetes and obesity, to hormonal disorders like PCOS.

The problem with sugar is that it impacts a VERY important hormone called insulin, which is responsible for regulating blood sugar. It is also very closely tied to inflammation, hormonal dysregulation (particularly testosterone + estrogen), and issues with metabolic function. All of which, can have a domino effect on our hormones and general functioning.

In the US, our diet is FILLED with refined sugars. There are companies sneaking in sugars which are making us addicted to their products. Fun fact: there are 56 different names for sugar, so read your ingredient lists carefully. Refined sugar can lead to a sudden increase in blood sugar levels. The problem is that over time, this sugar high is no longer manageable and causes our bodies to go into overdrive. This can lead to a whole host of issues: brain fog, mood changes, digestive issues, weight gain, skin issues, etc.

Curbing sugar craving is not easy, I know from first-hand experience. Especially after decades of eating it on a regular basis (even without knowing it). But, I promise you that overcoming this obstacle will rid you of many of the symptoms you’ve been struggling with.

Are you up for the challenge?

We’ve talked about seasonal affective disorder (a.k.a SAD) in the past. But, as we head into a few more months of winter with a splash of pandemic uncertainty, I think this conversation is more important than ever.

Two natural chemicals responsible for SAD are serotonin (too little of it) and melatonin (too much of it). Serotonin is responsible for uplifting and energy-boosting, while melatonin helps improve sleep by regulating our circadian rhythm. Sunlight is important for the production and regulation of both of these. Because we are getting a lot less sunlight during the winter months, both of these hormones are impacted.

To learn about how light therapy can be beneficial during the winter months especially when it comes to SAD check out our blog post: https://www.thecyclesolution.com/blog/HowLightTherapyMayImpactSeasonalHormonalChanges

Do something for you today, you deserve it.

Remembering to fill up our own cups before pouring into others can be challenging. To bring our A-game to the rest of the world (family, work, friends, spouses, etc) we have to remember to take care of ourselves. When we neglect our own self-care routines, mental and physical fitness we take from our ability to give to others. They deserve you at your best and you deserve to feel your best.

What have you done for yourself today?

4 hacks for keeping your new year resolutions to eat healthier.

1. Plan your weekly menus.
Without a plan, you are planning to fail. You don’t have to strictly eat in an outlined manner but have a general gist of what you are making for your 3 meals each day.

2. Order groceries online or go to the same store
You will get quicker and quicker at grocery shopping with each visit

3. Make it delicious.
Healthy eating does not mean eating only plain chicken and salads. Start pinning healthy yet delicious-looking recipes or grab a cookbook you find enticing.

4. Make it fun.
Throw on some music, grab your favorite evening beverage or maybe slap on a face mask and whip yourself up something nice. I find the more I dance while cooking the better the meal tastes - ha!

3 tips on keeping your resolutions

1. Create a vision board. Grab your arts and crafts and get to visualizing. It is better to create a physical vision board but a digital one works too.
2. Write them down. A goal or task is 42% more likely to get accomplished when you write them down.
4. Make a “challenge” for yourself. Outline a challenge for yourself to follow. Have daily goals weekly goals and make progress reports. Progress is happiness.

I think it’s clear that chronic stress can lead to a whole host of issues. Metabolic health is no different. Here are some reasons.

1. When we are stressed, we often crave sugars like sweets, bread, chips, etc. We can also crave sweet, fatty, and salty. This can have an impact on our metabolic health, specifically with blood sugar balancing.
2. Stress increases caloric intake and stimulates body weight gain especially visceral fat which has been linked quite strongly to many chronic diseases.
3. Frequent and chronic stress can lead to “wear and tear” on various organs. It can also impact our bodies' own metabolic pathways.
4. Psychosocial stress has been linked to an increased risk of metabolic disease, including obesity, heart disease, Type-2 diabetes, and PCOS.

It is clear that stress can have profound effects on the body. With metabolic functioning being essential to overall health and longevity, we must approach this area of healthcare from all angles.

My Story

Hi! I’m Megan Cooper. Having had a laundry list of symptoms tied to my endometriosis, every doctor I met with provided a bleak solution (like getting a hysterectomy). Instead, I took my health into my own hands and did extensive research on nutritional science, holistic and functional medicine and natural healing approaches to recover.

The program I developed, The Cycle Solution, healed my symptoms and changed my life! The Cycle Solution works so well because it addresses the root cause of symptoms along with the health of your whole body, and gives women the solutions I wished I had when I first started this journey.
