Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Arbor Village and Village Glen for Wizard of Oz fest! Last week we turned our own version of Kansas into the Emerald City where even Toto showed up (well our four legged friend, Theo, anyway). It was a week of celebrating this classic tale with help from musical wizard, Tom Stanfield, and our own Good Witches of the North in the kitchen making scrumptious rainbow cupcakes for snacks and tornado cake for dessert. And while we enjoyed our time in the land of Oz, at the end of the week we all agreed that there's no place like home.

Christmas in July was so nice everyone said let's do it twice! So, we gathered all our little helpers and wrapped up a holidays week in August (in part to help trick ourselves into thinking of crisper weather in the middle of this week's heat 😅). Many cheers to Michael Joseph and Christmas Elvis (with his dancing sideburns) for bringing the cool as we reveled among the "snowflakes" from the bubble machine (which we all agreed made for the best kind of snow). While we enjoyed the little respite from the hot temps, we quickly got back to the joys of summer knowing that the real Christmas season will be upon us before we know it!

It may be a rocky road but if you pecan around the corner you're sherbert to find something delicious! Welcome to Ice Cream Week at Arbor Village and Village Glen. Another wonderful summer treat made possible by our friends at Hansen's Ice Cream Parlor in Burlington. With 24 flavors to choose from we had quite the adventure deciding which ones were the favorites, but after putting in all that hard work the following rose to the top: Butter Pecan, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Key Lime Pie and Watermelon Sherbert! Tell us your favorite, then head to Hanson's and indulge in this scrumptious rite of summer. 🍨

Gone fishin! Can't get much better than that on a warm, sunny afternoon as was our theme all week at Arbor Village and Village Glen. From fishing stories to Michael Joseph entertaining us with songs about summer along the water to our culinary masters in the kitchen serving orange roughy, it's been a celebration of summer fun. We even gave a nod to the dog days of summer with a visit from Cathy and her therapy dog, Theo. Summer is here and unlike that one trophy fish, we're not letting it get away!

Sunny, 80s, and the smell of grilling in the air...it's starting to look a lot like Christmas! Welcome to Christmas in July at Arbor Village and Village Glen where we celebrated the warmth of the season with equal warmth in the weather. Big thanks to our staff for decking the halls and planning events, including our holiday entertaiment provided by one of our favorite Santa's helper, Tom Stanfield. Even though the snow is a ways off, wishing each other happiness and good cheer is never out of season. 🙏

Wheels up! And, down the road. Cycling Without Age stopped by Village Glen and took our residents on a beautiful, summer spin around the neighborhood. We can't say enough about this wonderful group, but maybe all the wide smiles is all that needs to be said. Same for Mark Paffrath who never fails to entertain while adding to the bicycling fun with a rendition of "Happy Trails". Any lovely summer day is a perfect day to get on your bike and ride!

We welcomed a new volunteer this week! Cathy and her pet therapy pup, Theo. He is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and after visiting Village Glen everyone agreed that Theo's eyes and ear will get him anything he wants! 😉 Shelly also discovered wild black raspberries at Village Glen and made delicious sundaes for everyone as Mark Paffrath entertained us. A lovable, scrumptious and musical week to perfectly lead us into the 4th of July.
