💡 5 Practical Ways to Beat Knee Pain & Protect Your Joints

Knee pain doesn’t have to control your life — here’s how you can help your knees feel and function better starting now:

1️⃣ Use the “10% Rule” for Activity – If you’re increasing workouts or walking distance, do it gradually (no more than 10% per week) to avoid overloading your knees.

2️⃣ Ice, Then Heat – Ice reduces swelling after activity, while heat relaxes muscles and improves circulation before stretching or exercise.

3️⃣ Engage Your Core & Hips – Strong hips and core reduce stress on the knees. Simple moves like bridges, clamshells, and planks help.

4️⃣ Wear the Right Shoes – Supportive, cushioned footwear absorbs shock and helps align your knees. Worn-out shoes can make pain worse.

5️⃣ Listen to Your Pain Signals – Sharp or worsening pain means it’s time to rest and get evaluated. Don’t push through it — early treatment can prevent long-term damage.

At Midwest Sports and Interventional Spine, we help patients across the Midwest get back to moving comfortably — from weekend warriors to everyday walkers.
