The $2,000 limit for Medicare Part D is an out-of-pocket cap on prescription drug costs that went into effect on January 1, 2025. This limit is part of the Inflation Reduction Act, which aims to make healthcare more accessible and lower drug costs.
How does the $2,000 limit work?
Once a person reaches the $2,000 limit, they won't have to pay for covered Part D drugs for the rest of the year. This is called "catastrophic coverage".
The limit doesn't include monthly premiums.
It only applies to medications covered by the Medicare plan.
