FRANKINCENSE SPOTLIGHT

Is there anything this oil cannot do?

Sometimes referred to as the king of oils, Frankincense is known to promote cellular health and immunity and can be consumed daily for these internal benefits. It promotes cellular health and DNA integrity for any lumps or bumps that your animal may have. Frankincense supports healthy function of the nervous system, immune system, and digestive tract. It helps soothe skin that is irritated, itchy or damaged, particularly when used in conjunction with lavender. It also relaxes and soothes sore muscles and joints in older animals.

From an emotional standpoint, Frankincense is the oil of truth and is quite helpful in rescue situations, particularly when an animal is un-trusting of certain people or if they have been “tricked” too many times. This oil is excellent to use in transitions such as adopting a new animal or if you are trying to build a stronger bond with your animal. It helps with feelings of abandonment and emotionally disconnected behavior. Frankincense promotes feelings of peace and trust.

Can you see why this is probably my favorite essential oil?

Here are some of my favorite ways to use Frankincense Essential Oil with animals:

- For horses and cattle, apply 4-6 drops along the spine from tail to head, over the poll, directly over the area of concern. You can give 2-5 drops twice daily with feed to give internally. (Optionally, you can dilute in a carrier oil for topical use to cover a larger area.)

- For dogs, dilute 1 drop in 20-50 drops of carrier oil (that is 4-6 drops in a 10 mL roller) and give one diluted drop internally mixed with food, or apply topically along the spine or directly over the area of concern or between the paw pads of the back feet. (Dilution for internal use is optional.)

- For cats, water diffusion is preferred. For topical application dilute 1-2 drops per 100 drops of carrier oil prior to applying to the area of concern or by petting along the spine (that is just 2-4 drops in a 10 mL roller).

Frankincense is safe to diffuse around reptiles, birds, and small mammals as well.

When in doubt, get the Frankincense out!

Exercise Exercise Exercise!
Prior to the noise, be sure your pup is mentally and physically exhausted.

BOOM! BOOM! POW!

This is a Calming Diffuser Recipe for Stressful situations, like during Fireworks 💥 if your pet 🐾 is afraid. As Always, be sure to diffuse this in an open room with the doors open.

More tips to keep your pets calm during the fireworks:

• Exercise your animals more than usual during the day (early, before the fireworks) so they are nice and tired in the evening.

• Be sure your pet has an up to date microchip, and a collar with a tag with your name and number on it, in case they get loose.

• If you need to let your dogs outside during the festivities, use a leash and collar or harness, rather than just letting them out, even if you have a fenced in yard. The 5th of July is one of the busiest day for shelters due to pets that have run away during the fireworks due to fear.

• Diffuse oils!!! Serenity, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Peace, Cedarwood, Petitgrain, Vetiver, Balance, Console, and many other calming oils are excellent.

• Apply oils to yourself and your pet! Dilute for topical use for pets. Keeping yourself calm will help keep your pets calm. If you get anxious because you're worried about your pet getting anxious, this will just make them MORE anxious! Copaiba or Adaptiv may be great choices for you both as well!

• Be sure your pet has a safe place to go - a kennel with a blanket over it, and comfy blankets inside makes a great "den" to get away.

• Give your pet a super fun toy and play with them during the fireworks to distract them! Make it an exciting game!

• Play some music ("Alexa, play Calming music for dogs") - Spotify has a Music for pet relaxation station, and so does YouTube! Or Turn on the TV (the nature channel is always good!)

• Build an obstacle course in your home or work on some obedience training during the fireworks.

• Give your dog a yummy bone to work on! Or you can make a "pup"sicle with frozen chicken or beef broth (with a few "surprise" treats in it for fun!

• More oils. 💦🐾🐶💜

TEA TREE ESSENTIAL OIL - is it safe for animals?

Tea Tree, also known as Melaleuca essential oil has historically been used to promote skin health, as well as support immunity. Melaleuca has reported health benefits from maintaining beautiful hair to purification and freshening the room, cleansing the air, keeping skin clean, toned and healthy looking, supporting nails and ear health, and so much more... No wonder everyone wants a little bit of this oil! However, this oil is not safe for all species.

Tea tree is very useful in supporting the skin, hair and nails. This oil is also very useful in dealing with emotional issues of codependent relationships, particularly horses that cannot leave a particular friend.

So let's talk about how to use it with animals...

With Dogs: Not typically indicated for use with dogs without veterinary oversight. It is included in several blends, and these blends can be diffused using a water diffuser (2-4 drops maximum), and ensure the dog can leave the area. I have used this oil in rare circumstances with dogs under oversight by a veterinarian or trained animal aromatherapist and diluted properly. However, it’s best to start with an oil like Geranium, Myrrh, Arborvitae, or Melissa which are safer as well as powerful in their own right.

For Cats: Not for topical or internal use. If diffusing a blend with Melaleuca in it, ensure the area is well ventilated and the cat can leave the area.

For Equine or Large Animal Use: use this oil topically directly over the area of concern. It is particularly useful with for scrapes or minor cuts, or even itchy skin mixed with lavender and frankincense or helichrysum. This is very helpful for hoof health as well. A must have on any farm!

Birds and Poultry: Water diffusion or used in combination with other oils as an ointment. This oil can be used in chicken coops to help keep them healthy and... bonus: it can repel unwanted creepy crawlies as well.

This oil mixes very well with many oils… citrus oils, lavender, Rosemary, or eucalyptus are the most common ones I use it with.

Yes! You can use TerraShield with animals! No more insect repellents with synthetic or toxic chemicals! Essential oils are SO effective for this purpose and I want to make sure you know how to use them safely with your animals.

What is the TerraShield Repellent Blend?

This unique blend of Citronella, Lemongrass, Thyme, Cedarwood, Geranium, and Peppermint essential oils is a newer formula that is even more effective at pest prevention. You know the culprits...fleas, ticks, mosquitos, and flies...it is that time of year again!

The blend is already diluted in sesame seed oil so it is perfectly safe to use on people and large animals. Because of the Citronella, Peppermint, and Thyme, I do recommend further dilution for smaller animals like dogs and cats.

How to use TerraShield Repellent Blend with animals:

• For horses, cattle, sheep, and goats, use topically undiluted every 6-8 hours as needed or try the fly spray recipe over at essentialoilvet.com/recipes .

• For dogs over 25 lbs., put a few drops on your hands and rub down your dog prior to going outdoors. Or you can create a spray with 50% TerraShield and 50% carrier oil or filtered water (Shake before applying).

• For dogs under 25 lbs., dilute 50% with carrier oil and then use 1-2 drops in your hands to rub down dog prior to going outdoors.

• For cats, diffusion is preferred. For natural pest repellant, you can also try Cedarwood Essential Oil diluted to 1%.
