Last year, while skating around her new home in Nicaragua, Jessica Starkweather noticed that many local kids were skating on boards and equipment that was completely dusted. During a visit back to Portland, she floated a simple idea—asking her friends and community if they had any used skate gear they could donate.
The response was overwhelming.
What started as a casual ask quickly snowballed into something much bigger. Friends showed up in full force at an event at Thunderbird with literally a ton of gear. Suddenly, the challenge shifted from gathering donations to figuring out how to get everything back to Nicaragua.
Thankfully, Hudson Poston and Autumn Rose stepped in (huge thank you to both of them!) and helped make it happen. Now, the gear has finally landed in Nicaragua—and it’s time to get it into the hands of the kids who need it.
To make sure it’s shared fairly, there will be a free raffle at Masaya Skatepark. The only ask? If you win something, pass your old gear on to someone else.
What an incredible thing to be part of. Huge thanks to Jessica for her kindness, hustle, and generosity. Follow along to learn more about her and Billy’s new venture, Valhalla Surf and Skate!
THANKS TO ALL WHO DONATED AND HELPED!!
