🐶🐱 Dog & Cat Bites: What You Need to Know! 🩹

Animal bites—especially from dogs and cats—can lead to serious infections if not treated properly. Here's what you should know:

🔹 Common Risks:

Infection: Cat bites often puncture deeply, trapping bacteria under the skin.

Rabies: Although rare, bites from unvaccinated animals can spread this deadly virus.

Tetanus: A concern for deeper wounds, especially if you're behind on vaccines.

🔹 What To Do If Bitten:

Wash the wound immediately with soap and warm water.

Apply an antibiotic ointment and cover with a clean bandage.

Seek medical care—especially if the bite is deep, bleeds excessively, or shows signs of infection (redness, swelling, warmth, pus).

Report the bite to local animal control, especially if the pet is unknown or acting aggressively.

🔹 When to See a Provider:

If the bite breaks the skin

If it’s on the hands, face, or near joints

If you haven’t had a tetanus shot in the last 5 years

If signs of infection appear

➡️ Prevention Tip: Always supervise children around pets, avoid provoking animals, and never approach unfamiliar animals.

🐾 Stay safe and protect yourself and your family from potential complications of animal bites. If you've been bitten, don't wait—schedule a visit with us today!

🪰🐝 Educational Post: Insect Allergic Reactions – Know the Signs & Stay Safe! 🐜🦟

Did you know that insect stings and bites can cause serious allergic reactions in some people? While most reactions are mild, others can be life-threatening. Here's what you need to know:

🐝 Common Insects That Can Trigger Reactions:

Bees & Wasps

Hornets & Yellowjackets

Fire Ants

Mosquitoes & Biting Flies

⚠️ Signs of a Mild Reaction:

Redness or swelling at the bite or sting site

Itching or pain

Localized warmth

These usually go away with basic care like ice, antihistamines, or hydrocortisone cream.

🚨 Signs of a Severe Allergic Reaction (Anaphylaxis):

Trouble breathing or wheezing

Swelling of lips, tongue, or throat

Dizziness or fainting

Rapid heartbeat

Nausea or vomiting

This is a medical emergency! Call 911 immediately.

🛡 Prevention Tips:

Avoid wearing bright colors or floral prints outdoors

Use insect repellent when necessary

Keep food and drinks covered when eating outside

Don’t walk barefoot in grassy areas

Carry an epinephrine auto-injector if prescribed

🩺 When to See a Doctor:

If you've had a serious reaction in the past or if reactions seem to get worse over time, talk to your healthcare provider. Allergy testing or treatment (like immunotherapy) may be recommended.

Your safety matters. Stay alert, be prepared, and don’t ignore the signs!

🌊 Stay Safe Around Water! Tips for a Fun & Safe Summer 🏖️

Whether you're heading to the pool, lake, or beach, water safety is essential for everyone — especially children. Drowning is one of the leading causes of injury-related deaths in kids, but the good news is: most incidents are preventable with the right precautions.

✅ Top Water Safety Tips

🔹 Supervise Constantly – Never take your eyes off children near water. Always designate a "Water Watcher."

🔹 Learn to Swim – Enroll kids in swim lessons as early as possible.

🔹 Use Life Jackets – Especially for young children and weak swimmers — even near shallow water.

🔹 Secure Pools at Home – Use fences with self-latching gates and consider pool alarms.

🔹 Avoid Distractions – No phones or reading while supervising swimmers.

🔹 Know CPR – It can save a life before emergency responders arrive.

🚨 Important: Drowning can be quick and silent. It doesn’t look like what you see in the movies — stay alert!

Let’s work together to make this summer safe, fun, and accident-free! 💙☀️

📢 Stay Ahead of Cancer — Get Screened! 🎗️

At Core Care Family Medical, we believe early detection saves lives. That’s why cancer screenings are a vital part of your preventive health care.

🔬 What is Cancer Screening?

Cancer screening involves checking your body for cancer before you have symptoms. These tests help catch cancer early — when it's easier to treat and more likely to be cured.

🩺 Common Screenings Include:

✔️ Mammograms (breast cancer)

✔️ Colonoscopies (colon cancer)

✔️ Pap smears & HPV testing (cervical cancer)

✔️ PSA blood test (prostate cancer)

✔️ Low-dose CT scans (lung cancer for high-risk individuals)

🎯 Why It Matters:

Detects cancer early — often before it spreads

Improves treatment success rates

Increases survival rates

Gives you peace of mind

✅ Who Should Get Screened?

Screening guidelines vary by age, gender, family history, and risk factors. Let us help you understand what screenings are right for you.

📞 Call us today at Core Care Family Medical to schedule your appointment or talk with a provider about the screenings you need.
