The Social Zodiac
Part I: First Impressions
In this series, we’re going to take a look at all the many personality aspects your natal planets give you and how they appear to different people. The idea that people have of you depends on how close they are to you. Your friends will see you differently than people you just meet and they both will see you differently than family members and lovers, and so on. Each level of closeness allows a person to see a different side of you. Today, we are going to describe what someone things about you when they first meet you and then we will move into friendships and closer relationships in subsequent articles.
Your Ascendant, or rising sign, gives you a set of personality traits that are readily apparent to anyone, even those that have only just met you. They are like the shell of your personality, the tip of the iceberg. You don’t even have to say anything because your Ascendant also helps determine your physical appearance. Anyone looking at you can form an idea about you, but their opinion might seem completely wrong because they are only seeing the smallest and most visible part of you.
The descriptions below show how strangers are likely to view you. Besides the zodiac sign, you will find the name and then the possible (and possibly comical) first impression in quotations.
ARIES: the Bold One
“Woah, who was that?” People say this after meeting you for even just a couple seconds. You leave a bold first impression with people and won’t soon be forgotten. You might have showed them how good you are at taking charge or maybe you came across as a rash and bossy person. Remember that first impressions stick so be careful to make it a good one.
TA**US: the Quiet One
“She doesn’t talk much, does she?”, a person might whisper to their mutual friend with you. It’s not that you are quiet, but cautious. You don’t want to give the wrong impression. This shows in the clothes you wear, which were picked not only because they were comfortable, but because they will help you express yourself even before you say anything. That way, you can feel a new person out and determine what you are going to say to them. You know your silence doesn’t make them uncomfortable because your demeanor is very friendly and stable.
GEMINI: the Talker
“How did I get started talking to this guy? It’s been like an hour now!” You don’t know any strangers because everyone has an interesting story to tell and you want to get it out of them. You have no problem approaching them with enthusiasm and cheer, whether they are a person behind a counter or a police officer. More people will like you because you show interest in their favorite subject: themselves. You have an animated way of talking and a voice filled with inflection and charisma. Just be sure to not be carried away on too many tangents and be aware of their body language. If they’re backing away, the conversation should probably wrap up!
CANCER: the Soft One
“She’s so sweet” You usually take an immediate interest in the well-being of those you just meet, being able to perceive if they have something that is bothering them. This makes you come across as a caring person--and you are--but like a crab, you are also side-stepping talking about yourself. By keeping the focus on the other person, you do not have to open your shell and reveal anything about yourself. Still, your sensitivity betrays you and the sympathy you are showing to another can lead to them showing some to you.
LEO: the Actor
“Take a look at him”, people say as you walk into a room. You make it so they cannot help but to notice you. Whether it be through your clothes, appearance, voice or just your presence, people cannot help but to at least glance in your direction. You make yourself attractive and are generally proud of how you look, so this confidence inspires respect in others. You are also immediately generous and have no problem giving a stranger a gift or boon of some kind if the opportunity arises.
VIRGO: the Helpful One
“Thank you, ma’am” You don’t dress to impress and appear very modest. Strangers may not give you a second glance, but you will still be there to open the door for them or pick something up for them if they drop it. As you help them, your eyes may pick up on a stray hair on their jacket or a missing button and you might just point that out while you’re at it. They may think you are putting them down, but you think you are still being helpful by pointing out what is wrong. You have a quiet charm, but unfortunately it doesn’t usually come out with strangers. You need time to warm up to a person. Until then, you might want to keep your observations to yourself to avoid any hard feelings.
LIBRA: the Charmer
“mmm…yummy”, strangers think, as they gaze wide-eyed at the beauty that is you. Are you the god/dess of love, perhaps? It sure appears that way and people will fall over themselves to be in your good favor. You like to please people with your grace, charm and laughter, but you also would prefer to keep them at arm’s distance. If they get any closer, your spell will wear off and they will see the real you. You can’t have that! That’s fine, just make sure you use your power of persuasiveness for selfless purposes.
SCORPIO: the Intense One
“…Am I in danger?” You are a quiet one, but this quiet is anything but comfortable to strangers. Your eyes seem to pierce their souls and your energy is intense. People will immediately feel that you are not one to be aggravated, so they will be very careful when they first meet you. Your manner commands respect, but in some cases, it brings fear. When you do speak, it will be powerful. You can either inspire someone to be greater or you can scar their soul with your words, so be careful. Usually you won’t say much at all because you are too busy reading between their own words to find out what they are really about.
SAGITTARIUS: the Zealot
“He sure seemed to know a lot about that.” You have an opinion about everything and you feel that people need to know what you think. People can find you somewhat overbearing when they first meet you because you are not only outgoing, but also you insist on making them listen to your views on whatever matter is at hand. However, your confidence and sense of humor on a subject keeps you from angering them. For instance, you may start a political conversation with a complete stranger in a hotel elevator, but by the time they reach their floor, you will have likely given them something to think about, at least until they reach their room.
CAPRICORN: the Businessman
“Thank you, sir” Serious and very business-like, you do not waste time with small talk, and might even forgo the formalities of a hello and goodbye. There are more productive things to think about. No matter your dress, you will usually appear like you’re a success. Your persona exudes an executive and professional quality. You may be seen as rigid and lacking in social niceties, but you will do what is socially responsible like holding the door open for someone, even if it is with a cool and impersonal demeanor.
AQUARIUS: the Unique One
“He’s…different”, strangers may say once they leave your presence. You are quite sociable, but also very eccentric in some way. Perhaps it is your ideas, mannerisms, or appearance, but something seems off when people meet you for the first time. You have quirks like most everyone, but you wear them on your sleeves. You express yourself as a unique individual and refuse to blend in with the rest of the people, particularly with their ideas. Others may not be ready to hear your innovations, but you know all you have to do is wait for them to catch up.
PISCES: the Gentle One
“She really understood me.” People view you as quiet, soft-hearted and peaceful, with a dream disposition. This may either adhere you to their hearts or cause them to think they can walk all over you. You are actually just feeling them out, absorbing them into you, becoming them. Their expressions are your impressions, and like a chameleon, you can match their way of expression in just a few moments. However, you are better off winning strangers over with your sympathetic and charitable nature, using your intuition to feel out what they need instead of what they are.
